Can "split by scene" function be used in Edit mode

Post by Retired Tech »

I have a large captured .mpg file in Studio 7 SE edit mode. Everything works fine but I would like to split that file into multiple scenes for editing. If I invoke the "split by scene" function it goes through the whole file splitting it up just fine. Then at the end I press OK and all the files go away. Am I doing something wrong or does this function really not work in edit mode?

Did UVS actually detect multiple scenes or not? If you asked it to detect scenes based on the timecode, and the file did not contain jumps in the timecode, it will be treated as a single scene. You should also select the "Open scenes as multiple clips" option.

Make sure you have a tick in the box next to "Open Scenes as Multiple Clips in Timeline" before you click 'OK' in the "Scenes" dialogue box.

Thanks for your input but I solved the problem. And yes it does work just fine. The problem turned out to be this: The captured .mpg file had a 20 second blank trailer at the end so when the function of splitting the scenes up stopped I just hit the end key and everything went away. What I should have done was WAIT until the end of the file including the blank trailer and then the split scenes are left intact . And like magic the split scenes filled into the storyboard mode. It did not require that I be in Time-line mode. By the way I just set the sensitivity to around 40 and it worked great.
