main sound (audio from DV cassette) missing after burning

Post by adamkroc »

Hi I have Ulead Video 9. Everything works perfectly until I create a DVD. When I try to play this DVD it works also perfect but in about a half the main sound disappear. After about 20 minutes it appears again. It happens always in the same place. ...and before creating the disc(during creating it, making effects, etc) the sound(in the part I wrote above) sometimes works sometimes not. When I clic share - create disc and go to the "preview"(where you can see how it looks alltogether, with menus etc.) sound never works. How can I solve it? May it be a problem of may videocamera.(but when I play the file uncomprimed in DV format which was extracted directly from the cam and play it for example in windows media player it works absolutely normal with no problems.) Please help I am hopeless

I don't think you are hopeless, just confused. There must be something with the clips that cause your trouble. Were they all captured with identical settings? What format, DV-AVI type1 or type2, mpeg2... what?

Project settings for the editing and sharing stages?

I'm afraid, in order for anyone to be able to offer some help, you would need to give us more detail on what you did, how and with what settings.

Ok :) than,

I have sony mini-dv handycam HC42E
I have captured video from the cassette using pinnacle studio(really horrible software) with normal settings. now in ulead video 9 it has these settings:DV Video Encoder -- type 2, 24Bits, 16:9 Audio Compression: PCM, 48000kHz,16bit
When I play this video in windows media player it works normal
when I open it in Ulead it works also fine, but sometimes(most ofen when I am working in timeline view) there is no sound in one part of this file.
When I pres Share - Create disc - next - next(there is some preview of the whole film I have created) sound dont work too. When I try to burn it on the DVD the sound(in that part) also dont play...

is that enought? I hope it will help...

It would also be useful to know about your computer specifications. The captured DV used Type 2 encoder. This is fine and I use it myself more often than not. But you have to have a relatively powerful computer to be able to handle it properly in the capture phase. The fact that you can play it back without problem in WMP suggests it is OK. But there could be some problem introduced in the capture by Pinnacle and which conflicts with something in VS9. Not sure what this might be, though. The only thing I can suggest would be to recapture at least some of your footage using VS9 or a small freeware program called WinDV and see if the problem continues. AND when you recapture, set it to Type 1 Encoder and not Type 2. Type 1 DV is easier on the computer to capture and is more consistent with most peoples' computers. Bonne chance!

I have Athlon XP 2500+, 512 DDR, Ge-Ferce 4 Ti 128DDR... might it be problem??
I tried another cassete(which was also captured by pinnacle) and there is the same problem. I do not have the original cassette so I cant do as you wrote. Finally I managed to burn it(I have separated video and audio trial, than put it in the project as a .mp3 file and it works fine) However I know its not possible to do it every time. so I will capture next cassete by Ulead and see how it works. Hopefully it will be better.

By the way can you tell me, please, what is the difference between DV encoder type 1 and 2?
