4 Hour Mode:
NTSC:
FrameSize = 352x480
Video_Bit_Rate = Constant @ 2100kbs
FrameRate = 29.97
Mpeg Audio or Dolby Audio @ 128 to 192kbs
6 Hour Mode:
NTSC:
FrameSize = 352x240
Video_Bit_Rate = Constant @ 1500kbs
FrameRate = 29.97
Mpeg Audio or Dolby Audio @ 128 to 192kbs
These modes are valid for 30 days and qualify for mail-in rebate

Re: answer
PAL will use different resolutions -- 352x576 and 352x288. The frame rate will go to 25fps.blue25 wrote:does that apply to PAL as well?
I think he was just kiddingwhat do you mean by mail-in rebate?

George
p.s. if I were going to use such low bitrates, I would recommend Variable bitrate and 2-pass encoding.

Hi,
What George is saying is to get a better "Picture" if you can use variable bit-rate and 2 pass encoding.
I posted safe recording values.
I have recorded 4 hour's at a Variable_Bit_Rate of 2700. But that's guessing because you really don't know. It depends on how clean the video is and how much motion is in the video.
4 hour mode is for backward compatibliity with video tape recordings. Not usually a good picture when displayed on a 27" or larger TV.
The 4 hour / 6 hour / 8 hour modes of dvd recorders is great for making dvd's for the kid's to watch on the 10" LCD screens in Cars, trips or the small portable dvd players.
Also, small presentations and for teaching purposes.
I'll record on the dvd recorder in 8 hour mode various home movie clips. Then use MF4 to extract them to harddisk. They are small size and then can be emailed out to people. It's a fast method.
