Hi, I am having a problem opening my Photoimpact 8.5. Whenever I click on a photo on my computer which prompts PI to open, it opens but then gives me this error message:

The instruction at DX73dd11c7 referenced memory at 0x00000004. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program.

I have never had this problem before. Anybody know? Thanks!

Hi Alison,

There are several reasons that could cause that error. As the error message states it is due to a problem with memory, not neccesarily RAM memory, but that another program/app is using that memory address. It can also be caused due to a full temp / working folder. I've had various programs throw that error message. Sometimes just clearing the Temp folder would do the trick. You have to have Show Hidden Folders selected (Tools-->Folder Options-->View).

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\User Name(your Profile)\Local Settings\Temp.
Delete all files in the Temp folder (Do not delete the Temp folder).
Now try opening a file again to see if you still get the error message.

You might also try opening PI, then from within PI, choose Open File, and see if you can open it that way.

One of the things I mentioned above, that can cause this error is a memory stick (RAM) going bad. You can google for MemTest, it's a free program that you can test your RAM. Even if your machine, or RAM is relatively new, does not mean that it can not be bad.

Hope that helps you ...:)

Thanks so much Ron-I found the folder Local Settings but in it there are 2 folders-one is Temp. Internet Folders & the other is just Temp folder. Which one do I delete all the items in it? The Temp Int. files looks like the one to me because the other folder has folders within it for some of my programs. I don't want to delete the wrong thing. They both look full. Thank you!

Alison,

Delete the files in the Temp folder. The Temporary Internet files should not have any effect on your programs. It just stores info, so when you browse the internet it will load pages quicker.

Also do you have more then 1 user profile? If so check the other profiles using the same path, except substitute the profile name for the User Name.

Also check the C:\Windows\Temp, folder. Alot of programs use this temp folder as a working folder. Again the files inside the Temp folder can be deleted.

Hope that helps..
