Problem with WMV in MSP7

Post by frankenbike »

Forgive me if this has been covered before, I couldn't find it in a search.

My former Windows 2000 machine had a general failure of some sort and I bought a new computer. I mounted the old media hard drive, and reinstalled MSP7.

I had recorded a demo of me using a program using Windows Media Encoder, which only outputs .wmv files. A project I had with these on my W2K machine worked fine, they loaded fine. The files are not corrupt, as the media hard drive was unaffected by the motherboard/graphics card failure on that machine.

I'm running Windows XP Media Edition on an HP Pavilion with Athlon x2 4200+ and nVidia geforce 7800gt graphics card on a dual monitor system.

When I try to load any of those files recorded with WME, I now get a message that says:
Unable to open file
E:\Projects\resolution1.wmv

Error when starting to read file. (Ox80070057)
This is not copy protected in any way. I seem to be able to load the files in other programs.

When I installed MSP7 again, I also installed the update from the web site. But I don't know if that is the cause of this problem, as I hadn't done that with my old system.

Any insight as to what this problem is? Any solutions?

First of have you downloaded and installed all the updates/patches for Media Studio Pro 7?

You should also download the following from Microsoft.

Have you tried to play the file with Windows Media Player?
Latest Media Player.

If the file won't play in media player your file is corrupt. Windows XP NTFS format is slightly different then Windows 2000, you might have to get a Win 2k computer for your hard disk and copy the files to your XP computer.

Yep, updated MSP7. I've wondered if that was the problem.

WMP is up to date.

WME is up to date.

The file plays in WMP and also in Winamp.

The possibility that there's a conflict with XP NTFS and Win2k is annoying. This wasn't a planned upgrade. I did it because the MB fried on my 2K computer. So no possibility of tranferring the files that way.

It's really frustrating, because MSP7 is the only program that the WMVs won't play on. And WME was a convenient way of capturing screen demos of software use for tutorials. And I don't have problems with MPGs or AVIs from the same disk and folder. Just the WMVs.

I'm pretty pissed off that Ulead won't give me support on this issue, because my version is too old. I understand their reasons, but I'm really unhappy about this, and the upgrade fees seem unreasonably high. This isn't exactly an inexpensive program.
