I am using VS8. Whenever I open the programme I am getting the above error message. This happsened after I tried to import some clips from the hard disc.
I have reinstalled the programme - no joy!! The tech support people have not replied yet!!

Yes many people have had this problem - it has a number of causes.
If you use the forum search facility here :-

and enter 'stream error' as you search criteria you should get quite a few hits - one of which may solve your problem.
