Can someone tell me why vs9 doesn't allow access to the DivX codec?
It works in vs8.
Having paid for DivX pro I'm disappointed that I can't use it with vs9.
Why doesn't vs9 allow DivX?

Steve -- I appreciate that you can output to DivX, but perhaps the poster was referring to actually using and editing DivX source files in VS9. As I understand it, you cannot do this without the mpeg-4 plug-in... I cannot be certain about this, however, as I have never succeeded in downloading the wretched thing, and finally gave up since I don't need to manipulate DivX or other mpeg-4 files in VS9... or at least have other programs which can convert them to mpeg-2 for the relatively simple task of burning to non-DivX DVDs without any editing.

Ken, Ah I see what you mean. If he wants to EDIT stuff in DivX then all I can say is 'Good luck' it's something I wouldn't do.
DivX is a highly compressed format, more so than MPEG2. There are already hundreds of posts on this forum explaining why you should avoid editing MPEG files, those explanations pale into insignificance if you try and edit a DivX, Xvid or MPEG4.

Waterspout,
When creating video file, you have to select Custom then Save as Type: "Microsoft AVI Files" in the first window. Then select Options, AVI Tab, Compression drop down should display Divx 6.1 as a selectable option. Then the "Configure" button should enable, where you can specify your desired properties.
