Fading can be done in the Overlay Options by keyframing the transparency setting.
ex: to fade an overlay in and out set its first and last Overlay Options keyframes (the defaults) to a transparency of 100%. Now create two new keyframes 15-30 frames from those two and set them to 0% transparency. The clip will now fade in, maintain, then fade out.

How do I compress for Quicktime
Hi there, I have saved my project and am ready to compress it for the web. I have found my options -ie saving it as an mpg or quicktime file, but when I attempt to save as these file types the compression doesnt seem to work. I have looked at the compression options and they seem to be rather ineffective. I have a 2 minute clip that I want compressed into about an 6-8meg file, but the smallest compression I get is 23megs for an mpeg file and about 70megs for the quicktime format. Can you please tell me how to effectively compress my projects when I am saving them as an mpg or QT format? Thanks!
Do you mean crossfading between two clips?
If v. 8, just overlap the two clips
If earlier version, put the 2 clips on Va and Vb, with an overlap, and drag down the Crossfade transition (under F/X) between them from the transition library.
The Overlay option as per Terry works fine for fading in or out a clip that is on its own track (not crossfading).

Easy "fade-in" to your project
Just in case you are looking to fade in.. that is "come up from black" in the beginning of your priject. The easiest way is to create a color clip.. black usually...then overlap the black over the beginning of your project clip whatever length of time you want the dissolve to take. Make sure you click (pure color) and select black at both the beginning and the end of the clip.. that is if black is the color you want to fade up from.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.
All this is adequately explained in the manual for your version. May I respectfully suggest you read it?

I would say that, without a manual, you are really in queer street for this problem and any others that may occur. This is a complex software and you cannot expect the guys here to copy extracts of the manual every time you have a problem. All the manuals are downloadable from www.ulead.com. Download the one relevant to your version and print it out. This applies equally to your other post.

So basicly this so called support forum. Doens't care about any issues I have??? Even tho there are how many post from people that have there own style of issues. I am having problems and I came here looking for help but I guess some people don't care about the beginers accept a few that gave me help. Does every post here get reffered to the Ulead website???? Can't even give me the correct link to the manual.Devil wrote:I would say that, without a manual, you are really in queer street for this problem and any others that may occur. And, prithee, how can I give you the link to your manual when you do not even tell us which version of MSP you have?

Glad to help with support.. but not ignorance
I have been a lurker here forever. I am a video editor and have learned more here than any other place about using Ulead products. Folks like Steve, Devil and Terry.. (and lotsa others) donate their time to helping hundreds of people they will never meet.
Before you get all outraged about the level of support you recieve.. how about attempting to learn on your own? Then when you can ask a question intelligently...come back and they will be more than glad to help. Me too. There is no excuse for someone who can't be bothered to download a manual or use the included "help" indexes.
Now specifically to Terry, Steve, Devil et al. You guys rock. One additional and somewhat off topic thought. I learned here that Uleads dvd burning software that is included with MSP 8 etc.. is less than outstanding. This I read after trying many many times to get the software to burn multiple copies of dvd projects. It would work one time.. then not the next..then two in a row, and so on. I never thought to ask here if this was a problem. I just assumed the fault was me or the system MSP8 was in. Then I read the thread mentioning this.. and lo and behold, using MSP to create the disk image file and (in my case) using Nero to burn the image to dvds works like a champ every time. Currently burning 150 copies of my latest project. 110 done and no coasters yet!
Just another example of this forum being the best. Can't thank everyone enought.

I do have experience Iv'e made over 5 videos so far but with ulead 9.0. I found it to be to basic for my level of experience. Thats why Iv'e moved up to media pro 8.0 but sadly do not have a manual. You just said everone has helped hundreds of people but I still remain in the dark. Iv'e stayed on topic because I need an anser to move on. What is the exact link for the manual????
