Can you return to menu at the end of a clip?

Post by Totores »

I have a project with 27 clips, these are spread over 5 pages of menus, is it possible to mark the end of a clip so that it will go back to the menu?

Say I choose to play clip 12, when it finishes playing it automatically goes back to in this case page 2 of the menus (Considering 6 clips per menu page)

Thanks
P.S. I had a previus post about freezing in edit pode, I've solved it by ripping the clips again but this time as MPG2 rather then DivX.

Thanks

In VS9, if you hit the little gear icon on the bottom left, you will see a pulldown menu for what to do after clip playback (Continue to play next clip, or Back to Menu).

I've tried that, and it works, but when the clip starts, it includes the bits that I,ve trimmed off (plays the hole file as ripped not the trimmed part as in the project) do I need to actully cut and re-encode the scene or will it play only the trimmed video once the DVD is randered?

thanks

A common reason for faults in the burning process is following the wrong procedure. The recommended procedure is outlined in the top sticky post on this Board. To summarise, you should NOT be going straight from the project in the timeline to the burn module (Share > Create Disc > DVD) which it sounds as though you are doing. INSTEAD, you should use the preferred method which is to first produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 file (Share > Create Video File > DVD). That way you will, in your case, be rendering the edited file, with the cuts you have made, to a new file. What is more, you can then play back the new file to make sure it includes all your edits and looks the way you want it to before burning.

Once you are satisfied with this new file, close your current project, and then click Share > Create Disc > DVD. This will open the burning module. Insert your DVD-compatible file(s), NOT the project. Make sure you click on 'Do not convert compliant mpeg-2 files' in the little cog-wheel icon in the bottom left of the burning module screen. This will prevent a further rendering taking place and a resulting loss in quality. Add your menu, chapters etc, and burn either the DVD itself or produce a disc image or Video_TS folder if you intend to burn more copies later.

If you are not using this method, then the wide experience here is that you are asking for trouble.

I've gone back and followed the tutorial on the right way to do things and it worked fine, no problem.
However, i now have two problems , when i select a chapter to play it will and at the end continues on to the next chapter, it will not go back to the menu (I have changed the setting back to manu at the end of clip in the share module) but it doesn't appear to work.
The other issue is that if i'm playing chapter 7 when i hit return to menu on the remote control it will go back to page one and not page 2 of the menu where the chaper is (5 chapters per menu page)
Any idea where I may be going wrong?
