Back home now so taken a look at what I was hinting at.
Below the Menu is a tick box for Motion Menu, just to the right is a duration.
Not exactly the same as in DVD WS but works in the same manner.
Check the duration to make sure it hasn't by some chance changed to the 1 second or so that the audio is being 'converted' to.
perhaps you didnt want it to loop and set it to 1 or something like that.

Just a suggestion, as I said sometimes we look too deep when there may be a simple answer.

To Ken Berry: I read in one of the posts that VS likes .wav files so that's what I used. Still no luck. I don't care for the motion menus so I leave the "Motion Menu" unchecked. I'm not going to die if I don't have background music. I was only successfully able to do it once, the very first time. After that, 1 second only. Oh well. I'll keep monitoring for any other ideas.

Ken, Steve J and vidoman, you guys are the greatest, thanks for all your help!!

Ken, Steve J and vidoman, I hope I didn't sound sarcastic in that last post. I wish that I had found this forum when I had VS7 and I wasn't smart enough to think about using it with VS8. Now that I got VS9, this forum has answered all of my questions and I'm converting family VHS's tapes like a mad man! Thanks for all the knowledge and experience you guys are sharing.

Doing a bit of research I have found that this problem is a bit more widespread than any of us may have realised. On behalf of the following members I have submitted the following to Ulead Tech support:
Regards, Steve J

May I bring to your attention the following three threads where the following forum users have all reported an identical problem with DVD Menu Background music using VideoStudio 9 which has only lasted for about 1 second. There appears to be an intermittant fault as these users have stated that using identical settings the music has lasted the required 25-30 seconds duartion.
Despite the efforts of forum members as far as I can tell no cure has been found.
It may be something that needs to be investigated by your technical support staff.

I have received the following reply from Tech support.
(Please note the speedy response)

Hi. I noticed that most of the users have XP SP2. I read in one of the threads that a user reverted to Win ME and didn't get the problem. Can you advise them to temporarily remove SP2 (from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) then re-burn their projects? Maybe it's a security update from Windows. I still have to do some tests before I escalate it to our R&D department.

Thanks!
