editing mp4 files in trial version

Post by redwilber »

Dear God,
I've spent all day looking for a product that I can try as a trial version and see if it will edit the mp4 files created by our vbrick recorder. After frustrating hours of downloading program after program and finding they don't work, or they don't recognize that type of file or they don't do as advertised I tried the Ulead VideoStudio v9.0 trial version. Guess what of course you have to download the codec for mp4's and that cost 30 bucks US. I'm not willing to pay for any program until I'm reasonably assured the program will work for this scenario. IS THERE ANY WAY TO TEST THIS PRODUCT AND SEE IF IT DOES AS ADVERTISED? My god my heads gonna explode. All I want is to trim the front of an MP4 file and maybe the end as well to get rid of dead space. Maybe I'll insert a short graphic or video in the middle of this and then burn it to a dvd that everyday users can play at home with no problems. This sites tech support choices are abyssmal. Sorry it doesn't cost $30. bucks to buy the codec they just want you to register the product. But if its a trial version there is no registration key. But to get aregistration key I need to buy the program. But I don't want to buy the program unless I know it edits the mp4 files correctly. But to find that out I have to download the codec. But to download the codec I have to register the product

I suggest that you go back and edit your post.
Its very hard to read...
Those long "words" are screwing-up the word-wrap! :(

There are lots of MPEG variations, so you would be taking
a risk
by buying a program without knowing if it works
for your particular file.

You might be working with a captured MPEG Transport
Stream rather than a Program Stream, which could
pose a problem. Or, you could have an unusual audio
format... or who knows what else... :?

What does VBrick recommend for editing?

MPEGs are not really meant to be edited. I've never played-around
with MPEG-4, but I have edited MPEG-2s and I don't recommend
Ulead for editing MPEG-2s. (I have a special-purpose MPEG-2
editor... Sorry, I don't know of a special-purpose MPEG-4 editor.)
