I have mastered how to create a DVD Menu from scratch
(Just a little challenge I am working on.)
I can create all the frames, buttons, Titles etc.
There is however one last item where I have become "Stuck."
It's not a major problem but just a matter of putting the "icing on the cake"
I cannot get Highlight Images to work, these are the small pictures that appear when you select a button. I have named the highlight images in the same manner as an exisiting template containing highlighted images
"HLI_1" for Thumbnail 1
"HLI_2" for Thumbnail 2 etc
And for the navigation buttons...
"HLI_MENU"
"HLI_PREVIOUS"
"HLI_NEXT"
"HLI_PLAYALL"
The highlight images in the template I was using as a guide are all hidden and so I did the same in my home made one, didn't work. So didn't hide them, still didn't work.
Even tried a copy from the working one I was using as a template and pasting into the home made one. Didn't work. Double checked the naming of the thumbnail, frame, text etc. All correct.
Everything else works and I can use the menu in DVDWS2 like any other, I just cannot solve the last remaining "icing on the cake" problem of including image highlights.
Any ideas?
Regards
Steve J
This is a deep question
Well, it's for sure, I can't help here because I don't do much with DVD's and menus. However, when you solve the mystery, a tutorial would be very nice (hint)!
I don't know how you created the menu and the various parts but I would thing you'd have to set them up as "rollovers" in PI so it would generate a script. That's what's needed to make things "highlight".

Thanks MaryLou I'll make a study of scripts, There is definately something in the (working) original Menu I am using as a template to create my own.
I don't want to just modify an exisiting menu (That would be easy of course) I am more interested in taking the lid off and finding out what makes it tick.
Once I'm happy with all the results I shall no doubt do a tutorial.
For the time being there is a good one here where you modify an existing template:-

If I do one it will be to compliment his good work not replace it.
Mine will be to create something from a "blank canvas"
Apart from the "Highlighted Images" Issue I have the rest of it cracked.

Deep question - Problem Now Solvee
--------------- PROBLEM SOLVED -----------------
As usual persistance has paid off and I have solved my own problem.
It appears there is a bug in DVD Workshop 2. When I couldn't find ANYTHING wrong I decided to try placing my newly created menu into
1. Video Studio 9.
2. Movie Factory 4.
The menu worked perfectly in both of those programs, it is only in Workshop 2 that the highlight images fail to appear.
Before anyone mentions the Photo Impact DVD menu Plug in at:
It will not install as it displays a message stating :-=

So it looks like I ought to send Ulead Tech Support a message!!
