I need some help. I am trying to make a computer-based training video where I have captured what I do on the screen at 1024x768. I used a nice freeware program to do that and it saves the file as an AVI.
I then want to put those AVI clips into VS8 (version I have right now), add titles, transitions, etc.. And I want to use the voiceover option to record the dialog to the voice track.
That all worked fine - but on the "Share" option, my only output options that I can figure out are like MPEG and WMV and such - but they all downgrade the resolution to 700 and some by something else. So in other words, it isn't preserving my 1024x768 resolution. So the computer screen shots look terrible once they are downgraded like that!
I realize that VS is probably more for outputing to a TV, but my project will only stay on a computer so I want that good 1024x768 resolution.
Any ideas? Is the option there and I'm just confused? Do I need to upgrade to VS9 or is there another software product that can do this sort of thing?
Thanks!
How to preserve 1024x768 screen capture videos

Use Divx Pro codec. This will allow you to set user defined resolution when creating AVI using their Create Bundle. Or this can also be done in VS or MSP granted you have the codec installed on your system. In Create Video step, under Options select codec and set defined resolution and render. You will have an AVI with quality compression suitable for web hosting or data CD.

This is written for 1440x1080 resolution but you can substutute your frame dimensions of 1024x768 in either the Divx video file procedure or the Mpeg2 procedure. To get the proper aspect ratio on the PC, uncheck "Use Non-Square Pixels". BTW, making an Mpeg2 video file will be much faster than Divx.
However, I don't think the HD plugin will work with VS8. You will probably have to upgrade to VS9...
