software freezes inedit mode VS9

Post by Totores »

I know this has been posted before by others but i need to raise this again, I have created several projects in VS8, i burned copies to DVD everything was fine.
I have now upgraded to VS9 and every time i import a clip in edit mode it will play the audio, it only shows the first frame and at the end of the audio everything stops. I have to turn VS9 off with task manager.
I have tried to uninstall 9 and reinstall 8 but i now get the same problem with 8 as with 9.
This does not appear to be a problem in movie maker as it will load and play the clip ok (the clips are maximum 3mins long).
My computer is not very powerfull but everything worked fine with 8, now I can't use anything!
PS I recently installed System mechanic 6 pro and thinking this was the problem I've removed it. Unfortunatelly the problem is still there.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I have a presentation on the 19th and I need this project to be completed.
Thanks

It could still be a problem with the clip. I've had MPEG-2 files that played fine with Windows Media Player, but they had "sneaky" corruption that caused my Ulead programs to crash, or have resulted in DVDs with A/V sync errors.

What's the file format of your clips? This seems to be more of a problem with MPEGs than with AVI/DV. In fact, you can corrupt an MPEG file if you edit it with a regular video editor... You may need a special-purpose MPEG editor.

The files are all AVI's (DixX 5), the thing is that I have already created a DVD using these files and VS8, and every thing worked fine. I than needed to make some changes to the project after upgrading to VS9 (stupid me) and when i either load the project or start a new project with the same files I get the big freeze.

I'm begining to run out of hair.....

My first thought would be to say that they don't work in VS9 because you probably have not downloaded the mpeg-4 plug-in. But then again, I am mystified as to how you managed to produce DVDs in VS8 using DivX videos, since VS8 is not supposed to handle mpeg-4 at all, regardless of whether they are carrying the .avi extension or not. Can you confirm that the DVD you created in VS8 was made from DivX files which had not been converted to either uncompressed AVIs or to mpeg-2? And that the resulting DivXDVD (if that is what in fact you produced) will only play in your computer or do you have a DVD player which will in fact play a DivX DVD? And I'd like to know exactly which version of VS8 you were using -- did it come bundled with something or is it a full version?

Well, no I haven't downloaded the plug-in yet, from VS9 when i click on properties it says "video compression DivX 5.2.1", the project i have created will play in any DVD player (I've tried in an old DVD player that I have).
The version is 8 as I currently have 9 intalled I'm not sure if It's V8.#.# on the old box says V8.
