Capture Errors!!!!!!!!!

Post by spin »

I just installed Media 8 Pro and have hooked up my Panasonic Mini DV Palmcorder.

When I went to make my first Scan DV Tape capture, an error message came up saying "The current device does not support the DV Scan". Please help! This has been driving me crazy for several hours now!

As you give no details of your settings, can you capture DV normally?

I can not in any way or fashion Capture period. The error that was in my previous post is the only message I get when I try to Capture Video, Scan DV Tape, or Capture Batch.

As you still haven't told us anything useful, cannot answer. Tell us how you have connected your cam and how you have set up the capture software. Also, your procedure and any error messages you get when you try a straight capture. Have you read the manual for Video Capture?

AH HA now we are getting somewhere!

I wasn't sure what questions you needed answered in order to help me.

I have the the video camera hooked up to my computer with a firewire usb cable. I have installed the appropriate drivers for USB and photo messenger.

The camera is set to VTR and when I open Video Capture or Video Editor and click on Scan DV Tape, Video capture, or Batch capture - I get the same error. It keeps coming up with the fact that the device is not supported. How do I get it supported?

I called Panasonic and spoke with someone there who said that I have everything installed properly and that a capture drive that is being mentioned along with the device not being supported is something that I would have to talk to ULEAD about.

In any case, I appreciate you trying to help and I hope that the information I have provided this time will allow you to help me.

I have the the video camera hooked up to my computer with a firewire usb cable.
I think that's the problem.
A firewire usb cable does not excist. You have a firewire cable (for DV capturing) and an USB cable (most used for transferring low resolution video and photo's from camcorders).
You must use a firewire cable attached to a firewire port on your computer to capture DV.
I think that you're using an USB cable now, and thats the reason why MediaStudio gives you that error.

Maybe I was incorrect in my communication or maybe you're right. I will sound like a moron here for a second because I just simply do not know; however, the cable that came with this palmcorder has a USB end that you plug into the computer and the other end, which has a similar shaped end to that of my Kodak easyshare digital camera, that I would plug into the palmcorder. Maybe just a touch wider.

In any case, is that not called a firewire? If it is - than I just can't figure it out! By the way, was I not supposed to get a capture card with this program when I bought it! It say's something about having to install the capture card before I can capture in the manual.

All I know is that I am excited to get in and start editing footage of my 4 month old son. This is frustrating me beyond belief. Thanks for trying and if you can come up with anything else let me know!

You are just creating confusion. Do your cam specs in its manual mention IEEE-1394, Firewire (an Apple Reg TM for the same thing) or similar? If so, did it come with an IEEE-1394 cable? If so, and your computer does not have an IEEE-1394 port, you will have to purchase an IEEE-1394 card and install it (Ulead products do not come with hardware). From there on, follow the instructions p. 197 ff in the manual.

If the cam manual says the video transfer from the cam to the computer is by USB (surprising!) then come back to us. In general, although I've never done a video USB transfer, it must be similar to IEEE-1394, but I'm sure it must be similar to DV except that you would have to configure for a USB2 port and possibly use a proprietary capture software that came with the cam.
