Ulead DVD Player 2.0 just doesn't work, please help
This has been aggrivating me for quite a while now.
A while back, I bought a pioneer DVD combo drive for my computer. I installed it myself (which I have done before) and installed the software it came with.
But, when I try to use ulead dvd player 2.0, it never works. I put a dvd in, tell it to play, and nothing happens. I just flashes the screen "Unlead DVD Player", then it goes blank and says it's stopped.
I've been able to get segments played by going to:
Media Source
File
Then clicking on certain video files that are on the disk
The problem here is, it plays horrible choppy and with no sound. (please note: the drive does work because I've used it to play games, and dvds will play on media player)
Well, I looked in the help folder for anything that could assist me, and there was nothing even remotely close. I went to ulead's website, and it's like the don't even aknowledge the existance of this program. I've tried to log on to tech support, but it never works (I type my e-mail and pass they sent me and it never logs me on), I've even posted on the forums under a different name and got no response.
The pure lack of assistance and uselss program itself have made me vow to never buy another ulead product again.
But I figured, I might as well try to get this stupid thing to work since I've got it.

Oh comon.
What is it going to take to get any kind of help?
I just want to get it to work, that's all.
What? Is the fact that I'm angry at ulead have anything to do with it?
Did I not explain something well enough? You know you could always ask me to elaborate on certain aspects of the problem.
Or are you forcing me to delete the program from my computer and blow $40 on another program that does work?

Have you tried the obvious steps first?
1. Tried to play with a different DVD - preferably a commercialy produced one rather than a home made one.
2. Tried to uninstall and re-install the software.
3. Made sure the IDE cable is firmly pressed into the back of the DVD unit and also the motherboard.
I recently had a problem capturing to one of my 3 internal hard drives - the video was as you put it choppy. After Inspection of my system I found that although they looked firmly pressed into the slots, getting my thumbs and pressing the IDE cable firmly cured the problem.
Let me know if this works or not.

Ok, first of all, none the dvds I've used are home made. They've been movies I've bought from barnes & noble, best buy etc...
The dvd drive has been put in correctly. Because it does play dvd movies on WMP, and I've been using the same drive for games.
Of course, WMP won't take screen shots, and it's been acting up as well (it won't play sound for dvd movies, but it will play music and sound from downloaded videos).
But worst of all, I have missplaced the dvd that came with my drive. Now, I have registered it, and I don't know if I can order a replacement. I've tried to log into customer service and it never will (despite the fact I've typed my SN and password right every time).

Small update:
It has just dawned on me that the dvd player came with movie factory 4. Well, I tried to download the latest patch (which also fixes the sound error on WMP). Well, I've got it downloaded, I try to use it and I get the error "Setup could not find Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4 installed in your system", which of course really peeves me, since it IS on my computer...

Do you have a boxed version of MF4 or a download version?
I have the download version so if yours is boxed you can skip step 1.
Step 1. Create a temporary folder somewhere on your computer.
Using Winzip ( http://www.winzip.com/ ) extract the setup file
(mine = dmf4_fulladv_e.exe) to that temporary folder.
Step 2. In that temporary folder will be a new folder named UDP
Inside that folder is a file setup.exe
This is the setup file for Ulead DVD Player 2. Run this and you will find 2 options (1) Repair (2) Remove
Try the Repair option first.
If that fails run it again and select Remove. You will then have to run it again to re-install.
Let me know if this cures the problem

Hi Philbert,
If it came bundled with hardware, then it is probably an SE version or something similar. Click on the About and it will tell you what version. Then since it is a freebie, the answer would be not that I'm aware of. There is no customer or Tech support for trial "freebie" versions.
If you could locate someone with the similar version then you could use it to reinstall.
Good luck..
Ron P.

Good news, I found the disk!
Kinda hard to find em when the fall behind shelves...
Anyway, I did the repair option, and it will play (we're getting some where!), but now the sound will only play during one the menues. It won't play during the rest of the disk.
So is there an update for the SE version? (if that's what I have)
