Program switching - possible or practical

Post by DB83 »

When I first installed MSP7, the switch menu included DVD MovieFactory as an option.

When I upgraded to DVD Workshop, that program appeared in the switch menu without any input on my part.

Now I have a problem with Video Capture under MSP8 - it does not work properly - whereas the MSP7 version is fine.

So this is what I wany to do if it is both possible (should be) and practical and that is have the swith menu on Video Capture under MSP7 to point to Video Editor under MSP8 and have the switch menu on Video Editor under MSP8 to point to Video Capture under MSP7.

There must be registry settings which control which programs are listed in these menus but I have failed to find them.

Any thoughts ?

Now this is wierd.

If I boot into Video Capture from MSP7 and switch to Video Editor then the MSP7 version runs.

If I boot into Video Editor from MSP7 and switch to Video Captute then the MSP8 version runs.

On top of that Video Paint and CG Infinity have both gone from the switch menu under MSP7.

So MSP7 and MSP8 are not as free standing as Ulead would have you believe. Installation of MSP8 has over-written part of the installation of MSP7.

Result !!

How it was achieved is a mystery as no registry entries were altered or any ini files edited.

I opened up Video Capture using MSP7 and then reduced it.

I then opened up Video Editor using MSP8 through the start menu.

When I switched back to Video Capture it was MSP7 that was called and switching back to Video Editor from there brought up MSP8.

To test it I then closed both programs and fired up Capture for MSP7 and switched to Editor. And yes, MSP8 was loaded. It also worked correctly, for me, by firing up Editor under MSP8.

So it seems that the program dynamically alters the switch links.

Now if I select 'Capture' from the menu of MSP8 Video Editor then it does fire up V8 application so I know now which one not to use.
