VideoStudio 9.0 & No Dolby Digital Audio.

Post by Ken Green »

The following tests carried out after installation of uvs_dvbt_patch_4in1.exe and follows 3 weeks of unsuccessful attempts to get VS9 to recognise HDTV Dolby Digital Audio. Reformatting HD and reinstallation of OS (XP Home), FusionHDTV and VS9 only prior to each series of tests.

CAPTURE/
Source: FusionHDTV, WDM Video Capture
Format: MPEG

OPTIONS/
Capture Options: Default
Video Format: Default
Video Input source: Video Composite - Audio: Input Source: Line In (STB/TV/AV/PC)
Capture Properties: Default
MPEG Settings: DVD PAL (720x576) - Audio Format: see clips below.

CLIP 1. Capture Video/ 2 minute clip (Dolby Digital Audio).

Clip 1 when run in VS9: Video fine - Audio none - properties show Audio type: Dolby Digital Audio, Total Samples: 5,779,200. Clip when run in other players and editors: No problems.
Share/Create Video File/same as project settings/save clip - No audio with any software tested - properties show 5,779,200 samples.

CLIP 2. Capture Video/ 2 minute clip (MPEG Audio). Worked fine with all software tested including VS9.

CLIP 3. Capture Video/ 2 minute clip (LPCM Audio) Worked fine with all software tested including VS9.

The supplier’s offer of a refund is starting to look more and more like the only answer to VS9’s Dolby Digital Audio problems, at least with my PC.

You might want to install the Codecs in this package. http://www.xpcodecpack.com/

You could also check this site out: http://www.myvideoproblems.com/WebPages ... rammes.htm

I think I've been able to locate part of the problem. VS9 and Cyberlinks PowerCinema [version 3.0.04008] ARE NOT COMPATABLE. This DVD player software was part of my OS installation and is installed automatically from a "BACKUP" partition on my primary hard drive, no choice given. Every time I restored my PC to as purchased condition it got installed as well. I finally installed a borrowed copy of XP pro and got a totally different response from VS9 and went digging.

With PowerCinema out of the way and uvs_dvbt_patch_4in1.exe installed I was able to save captured digital TV with Dolby Digital Audio selected via VS9. These clips had previously saved/rendered via VS9 with no audio.

High def TV channels with DD2CH remain a problem (3 channels). Clips recorded via FusionHDTV software still show Audio Type: None in VS9 although they play fine with other software.

When playing or recording high def channels via VS9 the preview screen is very jerky, freezing on a single frame for 4 or 5 seconds before catching up then freezing again. A/V sync is out by a mile.
The saved clip, when played with FusionHDTV or WMP, is jerky for a few seconds then stops. When played via VS9 it plays fine but will not render, giving a caution "unable to compress the video with the specified frame rate or frame size" [1800:5:1].
Total frames equals duration. Attributes: 24 Bits, 1440 x 1080, 16:9. Frame rate: 25 fps. The clip does have Dolby Digital Audio.

I think the above pretty well indicates a codec and or a TS problem... Now to find it.

Thanks for the links. I'll check them out.
Question. Is it possible to add codecs to VS9?

In VS9 under the Tools menu go to product codec information, the next screen will tell you what codecs are installed, the ones that are displayed should read full. Any other codecs that are installed are managed by the operating system. I'm not sure how to get VS9 to recognize any other codecs.

VS9 - Tools/installed codecs from Ulead/ Dolby Digital full and MPEG full.
With the problems I've had with VS9 and PowerCinema I'm assuming that VS9 must at least recognise other codecs and act on them or be acted on by them even if they do not show as installed codecs.

I can find little reference antwhere to installing other codecs on VS9.
