Capturing Problems

Post by sg »

Hello,

When I attempt to capture video from my MiniDV Sony Camcorder in ULead Video Studio 8.0, I am unable to alter the format. When I attempt to click on a different format, it always reverts to the AVI format. Is there anyway to fix this? Any help is appreciated.

Hi sg,

What format are you trying to change it to? How are you capturing it, it appears as though you are using a firewire (iLink)?

Are you planning on doing alot of editiing to the video? If so it is recomended that you capture to DV-AVI. Then lastly for now, what AVI format does your miniDV camcorder record to?

Regards

You are supposed to be capturing to that format.

Solution

Hi,

I believe I have solved my own problem after struggling for a while.
I found that if the camcorder is plugged into the computer before initilizing the Ulead program, this issue does not occur.

I was attempting to change it to a .wmv format or something similar. The AVI format was simply too large for my computer, as It consumed almost a gig of space per minute of video.

I am capturing it over a USB connection.

I plan on doing some editing of the video, although not an excessive amount -- only adding text, cutting and moving clips, and adding transitions.

The AVI format is not listed, although my camcorder is a Sony Handycam DCR-HC21.

Thank you a lot for your efforts.

Capture Format

Hello,

I am able to capture my video fine, but under the .avi format, more than 700mbs of hard drive space is consumed per minute of video captured. I read in other threads it is only supposed to consume 13 GBs per hour of footage. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot.

You need to capture to DV type 1 and as you mentioned this equates to about 13GB per hour. I would also exchange that USB cable for an IEEE1394 (Firewire / i-Link) which is far more suitable for transfering the video into your computer.
