Sony DVD403: Video and Sound don't match:out of synch HELP
Hello. I have a Sony DVD403. When i pull in the video files from the recorded camcorder DVDs, which records in Mpeg2 with AC3 audio, and create a dvd via video studio, the end product DVD has a mismatch in the video and audio..Hence what you see on the tv has audio that is about 2 seconds delayed.
Does anyone have any advice on what could be wrong or what I can do to fix this video/audio issue using Video Studio?
Thanks
Jason

Hello.
I am using the trial version of VS8. Since i had this same problem with Pinnacle 9, i wanted to demo it before buying.
I pulled the video in off the camcorder dvds. Put the dvd in the pc and at the capture screen, selected import from DVD.
I didn't do any editing. I just selected the video clips and added to the filmstrip. Didn't add any transitions or anything...just the title under create disk. All i'm wanting to do is put the 4 small dvds onto one large one. Nothing fancy.

OOPS...I HAVE STUDIO 9..still issues
Hi. I found out i have ver9. I've tried burning this sucker like 5 times. At the beginning the sound matches, but then about 20 mins in, it becomes about a second behind the video.
Any idea what to try? Or do i assume this program can't pull info off dvd camcorders?

1 more piece of info
I wanted to add that when i view the video within Vid studio, the clips look fine...something is getting out of synch when i do the 'create disk' rendering part...
I don't know if that give any more info on what may be causing my issue.
Thanks again

The trial version of VS9 does not include support for Dolby AC-3. I assume, moreover, that your camera uses 5.1 Dolby audio, whereas even the full version of VS9 only uses Dolby 2 channel stereo. So I am further assuming that, since you did not do any edits, the trial version of VS9 is converting the original captured audio -- or an audio channel acceptable to it -- to (probably) mpeg layer 2 audio or (possibly) LPCM.
You don't say where in the world you live, but again I am assuming it is probably in an NTSC country. If you are, then you need to be aware that mpeg audio is not part of the DVD NTSC standard. While some stand-alone players may in fact play it, some will not or will not play it properly.
So you are (possibly) being double-damned because you are using the trial version of VS9 with no Dolby support, and for (probably, if unconsciously) using mpeg audio in its place. Can you give us the properties of the files you have produced ?(Hopefully you followed the recommended procedure and with your project in the timeline, you first used Share > Create Video File > DVD to produce a DVD-compliant mpeg-2 file, rather than Share > Create Disc > DVD and burned a disc directly from the project in the timeline. If you did follow recommended procedure, then simply right click on the resulting DVD-compliant mpeg-2 and copy down the properties. If you did not, then that is a further possible reason for your out of sync problem.)

Actually, If he starts a new project.
Goes directly to Share and the burning module.
Import the previous imported original videos from the hard disk and burn them so they aren't rendered they should be fine.
He just will not be able to preview the audio but the original audio
will be on the burned dvd. Even if it's 5.1 Dolby.

I understand what you are saying, maddrummer, but I would have thought that VS9 would not have been able to 'recognise' the audio component and would thus treat the imported video in its entirety as not being DVD-compliant according to its own internal set-up, and thus re-render the entire project...

Ken,
Ever since version 7 (started with version 6).
I would make 5.1 Dolby audio Mpeg2's.
Use Uleads burning module to create the dvd.
Import the compliant mpeg2's, create chapters, menus, then burn a dvd.
Usually create dvd folders first to check the menuing system.
Use Nero or Ulead to burn the dvd.
I prefer using Nero to burn the dvd because it has the verify feature.
Always has worked for me.
I could never preview the audio of course.
In the dvd creation module the software multi-plexes the mpeg2 file into Vob containers and writes the menus etc.
Never re-rendering the file unless you have "Do Not Convert" Unchecked (but then you will lose the audio). Time to hit the reset button then
Always had that checked on of course.
In my opinion 5.1 audio is useless for home movies.
Video-Taping a bands live performance is another story.
5.1 Audio will bring out the vocal tracks better.

I don't totally agree with your theory on that Maddrummer, and I say theory because I understand that the audio in home movies is basically flat or 2D.maddrummer3301 wrote: In my opinion 5.1 audio is useless for home movies.

However in my opinion 5.1 would be useful when adding music to the background. The 5.1 would allow for more seperation between any talking audio in the movie and the background music. With a simple stereo the talking and background can become muddy.
Just my opinion though...

Yes, that is a really good point for 5.1 audio.
Another use would be slideshows with 5.1 audio music.
I should have worded that better.
I meant in reference to simple home videos taken with camcorders etc.
I know that people with the Sony camcorders recorded in 5.1 are forced to purchase the 5.1 software.
Nero 7 does 2/0 & 5.1 audio now.
