My new Pioneer DVD multi-format burner will burn DVD+RW's at 4X speed, yet when I go to burn data files on a disk, Ulead's only option is 2.4X speed.
I have a 80 pin IDE cable hooked to the drive to support fast transfer, and have checked my device manager to ensure that drive is set to allow DMA functions - - which it is.
Pioneer said that it would be software related being that the hardware settings are correct.
Any ideas? The DVD disk itself says it supports up to 4X DVD disks. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I've had the same thing. First be sure to have the latest firmware on your DVD writer. Second, it looks like Ulead performs somekind of test on the discs you use. With some disks it shows 4x with other 2,4. Even if the manufacturer states it's 8X. I wouldn't bother about it because with higher speeds writing faults are more likely.
I burn ALWAYS with 2,4 speed. Just to be sure.
