Hi RWR,

I've used and still have VS8 on my computer, and have not had that problem. I made sure to follow the Recommended Procedures.
Do have all the Patches/Fixes applied? They can be download from here:

Read This First Sticky please. We need more information to help you with this..

In particular we need to know the source of your captures and whether the original might be using Dolby AC-3 audio of some sort. If so, then VS8 does not support Dolby except with a relatively expensive (US$29.95) plug-in which may or may not be available any longer -- I don't know. Anyway, if this is your problem, then you can either find a free AC-3 filter under Tools in www.videohelp.com which will at least allow you to capture Dolby audio, though you will not be able to output Dolby -- it will be converted to another format. A better option would be to pay $49.95 and upgrade to the full version of VS9 which supports Dolby dual channel stereo.

It seems like there is a bug with vs8 (or 9) where the audio is sometimes not "heard" during video edit. In my case, if I change the audio setting to 99 (from default 100) during video edit session, audio magically comes back :)
