Questions relating chapter points

Post by Helge »

I like the new feature of MSP8 to set chapter points, since
1) it is easier to do it accurate as in DWS2 (because I can zoom in)
2) I can add I-frames at chapter points during rendering

When I however insert / delete / modify any clips (e.g. adjust duration of tilte clip), the chapter points are not adjusted. So I have to do this manually :( . Doing this I sometimes loose some of them (accidently dropped).

Would be nice if it would be possible to save the chapter points to an ascii (or better unicode) file and to also import them from such a file. So I could edit them with a text editor, print them, verify them, ... Any way to do this?

As I saw they are encoded in a separate stream in the mpeg (or avi) file. Is this a standard way or will this be only understood from DWS2? (DWS2 is much older than MSP8, so any support for this format was build in long time before.)

My procedure;

Use timeline (blue) cues during the edit and only set chapter cues (orange) when the edit is finished and you're preparing to export the MPEG for DVD authoring.

Support for encoded chapters varies program to program in DVD authoring tools. Some support them and others, some that are very highly touted and similarly priced, still don't.

I find it telling that even Uleads cheap DVD solution, DVD MovieFactory, supports chapter cues.
