Widescreen on 4:3 TV??
I have been using DVD Workshop for a few years, but I have always shot in 4:3 mode. This latest project, I shot in Widescreen mode. The resulting DVD works great on a widescreen TV, but when I play in back on a standard TV, I expected to see the black bars above and below the picture, but I do not. The picture fills the screen entirely. Any ideas? This TV does not have an Aspect option, but commercial widescreen movies play back just fine. Thanks!
There are some possible explanations for this behavior, e.g:
1) commercial widescreens are often not true 16:9, but in reality letterboxed 4:3. Your widescreen tv drops the black bars and your 4:3 tv shows it as expected.
2)You encoded accidental your video as 4:3. Your widescreen tv stretches it, but your 4:3 tv shows it as it is encoded.
Check your menus, and your first play video, if you have any on your dvd. Since dws2 is not able to create 16:9 menus and no 16:9 firstplay, they should have black bars left and right on your 16:9 tv. Otherwise it is a hint, that your tv stretches it.
You can also use ifoedit, pgcedit and vob edit to check the aspectflags of the dvd you generated.
