Running VideoStudio 9 as Power User

Post by eastman »

I was wondering how to run VideoStudio 9 as a Power User. In my environment, we have all of our users run as Power Users for the sake of computer security. One of my users recently received VideoStudio 9 and we promoted him to admin for the install, but then removed his admin access. When you try to load the program, it says that you need to be an admin. We have given him Full Control over the Ulead directory under Program Files and the Ulead directory under the All Users profile, but it still won't run. It looks like it must need access to files in the Windows directory as well, but I haven't figured out which ones. Anyone have any suggestions?

Is the organization running "Windows2000" or "Windows_XP_Pro"?

XP:
Give him back admin priveleges. Un-install the program under his name.

Login to windows as administrator (not the user with admin priveleges).
Install the program.
Logout administrator.

User should now run VS as power user or restricted user.
Works for me.

Two more things you can try.
1. Run in compatability mode for an earlier version of Windows such as Windows 98.
2. If your security setup allows for him to have the administrators password use "Runas" - rather depends on why you have implemented security, to restrict outsiders or to split your workforce up into user groups.

Why "Power Users" rather than just "users?"

I have windows XP Pro and other user accounts do not have any problems running the software.
