Video Studio 9

Post by kenkillian »

Hi,

I need to download a video tape of a Soccer Game to DVD...

Apparently, I need a software package to do that…

So, I decide to purchase and download Ulead Video Studio 9…

I tried about 3 times to do a DVD Scan with Firewire from my camcorder. And that seemed to work great. It played the video clips…

But, when I clicked next, it the program would just quit… Yikes!

After download some instructions, I discovered that I must do Video capture…

But, when I do that, the VS9 just quits!!! The program ends…

The DV-Scan works, but the video capture does NOT work…
 :? :(

I download the patch update, and tried that. And it still doesn’t work. I tried to un-install it, and re-install it. When I first tried the video Capture, it seemed to stay there for a while. So as I was getting ready to download again, it just quit on me. No error messages or anything!

Please advise how I correct this? I download the “Smart Scan Download” from the tools menu. I am working off memory, so I hope I am saying that correctly…

I tried searching on Video Capture, and didn’t find anyone else with my error. Any ideas what I should check or do to resolve this problem?

Any help would be appreciated…

Thanks…

PS. I sent two emails to tech-support, and have not receive any replies yet…

When I said "Video Game", I meant a Video taping of a Soccer Game to share with my daughter's team players.... So for the confusion on that... :-(

Video Studio 9-- Dies/quits when clicking on "Capture V

Post by kenkillian »

SUBJECT: VS9 Dies/Quits when clicking on "Capture Video"

Nature of the problem:
When I click on the "CAPTURE" tab, and then click on the icon that says: "Capture Video". Video Studio 9 just Quits/ends the program.

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)
45 minutes MiniDV tape

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
Firewire & Samsung Camcorder SCD107

Project Settings
MPEG format

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD)
DVD

PAL or NTSC
NTSC

Error Codes (if any)
Unfortunately, no error, the program just ENDS, when click on the "Video Capture" icon. The "DV Quck Scan" works fine. I can see the video playing from my camera.

System information (please fill this up in your User Profile).
Done! Please look at my profile, or signature line.

I watch the video tutorial called:
"Ch 02 - Capturing Video.avi" I watched this to see if I was missing anything. And I followed those procedures. The problem is that the program dies when I click on the "Video Capture" icon. It just ends! No message or anything...

Change your capture format to DV or AVI
and try again.

Video Studio 9--Cannot Change Capture Settings... :-(

Post by kenkillian »

Sadly, I cannot change my capture settings...

Here is a snippet from the PDF Manual:

To capture video:
1. Click the "Capture Step"-(TAB) then click Capture Video-(Icon).

When I click on the Capture Video Icon, it briefly paints the capture screen. And then the program just ENDS IMMEDIATELY...

I have re-installed the software, applied the patch, and download all the Smart-Downloads. And have even installed Direct-X as directed...

My capture just ends immediately!!
:? :(    [/img]

OK try this then.
Quit from VS9 if its running
Turn OFF your camcorder.
Start VS9
Go to the capture tab
Turn ON your camcorder (in playback mode)
A dialog box should appear stating a new device has been detected and asks if you wish to use that device.

I rebooted my computer, to start with a clean slate...

And I started Video Studio 9, and click on the "Capture" tab....

I check the "Device Manager", and it did not show my camcorder, because it was turned off...
(Just double checking...)

Then I turned on my Samsung SCD107 in Player-Mode, and pressed the "PLAY" button. I saw the video on the camera, but nothing happen inside of Video Studio-9....

I saw that tip, and I had tried that earlier, and it didn't work...
:-(

Any other suggestions?

The "DV Quck Scan" works Great...

I can completely control my camcorder from my PC. It recongizes my camcorder as "Samsung --MSDV" as the device....

I can press play/stop/fast-forward/Review. This part works great!

I can also press "Start Scan", and that will find the clips on my MiniDV tape, no problem...

But, when I then said continue with the next step to capature the video, it then just quits the program with NO ERRORS, and no warning! Yikes!

I found the following contradictory statements about the Samsung SCD107 on the internet:

(1) "The MPEG4 and JPEG formats allow for easy downloading into your PC. This is done quickly using either the IEEE1394 firewire port or the USB port."

vs.

(2) "records video using the standard DV-format"

Is it possible that the camcorder has been set to convert the DV format to Mpeg4 in the camera during transfer to the PC? This could certainly cause a problem with Video Studio during capture.

Hmmm....

I was noticing the Mpeg-4 sticker on the outside of my camera, and was looking for MPEG-4 download...

I downloaded the latest driver from my camcorder from Samsung. I will check the manual...

Over all, I love the look & feel of the Ulead Video Studio - 9 layouts. It seems to be very nice, and intuitive...

I will now start reading and reviewing the Samsung Manual. I will post what I find out…

VideoStudio-9 --> Samsung MPEG4

Post by kenkillian »

Checking the samsung manual, the MPEG-4 is for recording moives directly to the Memory Card. Which I do NOT own the memory card for my camcorder....

The DV quick Scan can stop & play my video on my camcording, using the Video Studio - 9 as a sort like a remote control of the camcorder...

But, it does not work with the video Capture.... :
cry:

The Video Driver looks fine as defined by botht the samsung & Ulead Video Studio-9 PDF manuals...

So, the FIREWIRE does work, and the camera is recongized. But, the software does not recognize the video capture. So, their must be a problem with video capture software....

I have been trying to download a MiniDv tape for about 3-days nows, with no luck... :(

Do you have any other editing software that you can test capturing with? Didn't your camera come with a disc with editing software on it?

Yes, my Samsung camcorder came with a CD-ROM, which I lost...
:-(

But, I was able to download the software from the samsung software. And I was able to use the USB download, which was very GRAINY. So, it did work with the camera...

videoStudio-9: No Drivers for Samsung (Says Ulead)

Post by kenkillian »

I called into ULEAD, and they told me that their software does not list SAMSUNG SCD107 as one of the supported Camcorders...
:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

So, they said I will get a complete Refund!
:D

And I have purchased "Sony Vegas", which installed in about 10-seconds. Which Shocked me. On my first pass, I was able to record video to my hard-Drive!!! WOW!

The "Sony Vegas" is more Cluttered Interface, but at least it works!!!!

I really wanted to use ULEAD Video Studio-9, but it couldn't capture my video... :-( After 3-days of trying, I am glad that I got "Sony Vegas" to work in under 5-minutes. I had to read the manual, to make sure I was doing it right... :-)

If "Sony Vegas" instanly recoginzed my Samsung Camcord with it Turned off. I wonder why Ulead can't do the same? I hope they improve their Video Capture on the future release.... :) :) :( :) :) :D
