Post by schweener »

i use ulead video studio 9 and when I am done a project and want to make my mpeg2 file (the standard for dvds) it creates the file but when i double click the file and view it...the bottom of the screen is cut off. it almost looks like its 16:9 but all the settings are 4:3 absolutely!!! i d/l a tsunami (assortment of codecs) but this hasn't done anything. I re-installed to program, still i get the 3/4 screen.

please help.

if I remember correctly, this was a bug in VS9, where windows media player had an aspect ratio problem after VS9 install. I'm not sure if it was fixed in a patch or not.

I had the same problem on VS8SE. Everytime I create a MPEG2 file, the image shrink in height. I first thought it is something to do with the codecs, because that is quite a mess on my PC, and then I thought it had something to do with Lower Field First / Upper Field First, but after long hours playing around with the above, I realized it must be something else.
Last night I made an amazing discovery.
In VS you can create Templates to create files - in VS8SE it is under Tools, Make Movie Manager....
By default mine displayed:
PAL DV
PAL DVD
..
PAL MPEG2 ...
etc....
when I choose PAL MPEG2.... and go to the General Tab, then the
Display Aspect Ratio is inactive and "Source Frame size" is in the block,
but when I choose PAL DVD then Display aspect ratio is active and "4:3" is in the block.
VS give you a selection of these templates when you create video files.
I found when I use PAL MPEG2 ... then the result is a shrinked image (although the properties of this file display an aspect ratio of 4:3), but when I use PAL DVD, or CUSTOM then the result is a perfect 4:3 image.
I don't know if this could help you in VS9, but it could be worth investigating.
