Anybody know what method MSP uses to deinterlace footage? Say bringing an interlaced DV reel into a 'frame based' mpeg project and smart-converting the source.. I assume that part of the conversion is to deinterlace the footage.
Does it discard a frame and make up the rest, does it bob, blend, what? I'm noticing that the resulting mpeg file is of lesser quality than the original avi, and it is also rather choppy in places where there's camera movement or heavy subject movement.
Thanks
Tim

Like most editors it delaces by dropping a field and doubling the remaining field.
If you want a real nice tool for doing field blends etc. try either the freeware VirtualDUB video processor or the TMPGEnc MPEG encoder which has a ton of delacing options including some optimized for animations.
Yes, TMPGEnc can apply its filters without encoding to MPEG. While TMPGEnc is shareware for MPEG-1 and commercial for MPEG-2 the filters can be used even in the shareware version.
