ENIGMA: DVD WORKSHOP

Post by NorduNord »

To make a long story short:
Three of us have DVD Workshop. Theirs work just fine. I have a problem. When I import an avi file from Premier Pro which is more than 10 minutes, it will simply NOT load more than 9min 36 or 10min 34 sec. ! Impossible to run a 20 min clip !

I have reinstalled the program, oh what, 6-7 times now, Sometimes on my C drive sometimes on my D drive. No change, always the same !

We simply don't know what is going on ?

I have in a nut shell:
P4 Prescott 3 EG/800/1M/S478
Asus AGP Radeon 9250GE 256 Mo
200 hard disk

Possible answers anyone ?

Thank You.

I wonder if you have a corrupt AVI file. Have you tried the same AVI file(s) on the other 2 known-good systems?

Maybe Ulead is not as tolerant of bad files as Premier???? I've had MPEG-2 files that played fine on Windows Media Player, but they had some "sneaky corruption" that caused crashing or "lip-sync" problems with Ulead.

Hi,

I don't think so. I have many projects going on at once and the avi files all do the same, once imported in DVD Wkp.
I have done the reverse option: I have even taken one good avi file, which I know is good, from on of my friends (tested and TS'ed before), and the same problem still persists.

Another thing which the program does (rather: doesn't do) is in the Finish section, in the preview window, apart from the stop, play, pause; none of the other buttons function, they are all greyed out !

If that was the only problem...I won't have a problem !

You don't tell us the format of your AVI files. If they're rendered in DV, does it help to know that it sounds as if you're critical file size seems to be 2 Gb? Sounds as if the limitation comes more from your OS config than any other cause. Do you have adequate space on your C: drive for temp files, for example? This would seem the most likely cause.

Interesting.

Do you mean if my avi file (say 6 to 13 G) is for example on my D drive with say, 130 G space free, and my program is on C, when I import the AVI file into dvd workshop (wich is now on the C), the file actually transfers to C ?
If this is the case, then it would be logical to say that the limitation is due to less free space on my C, yes ? If there is a transfer of the file, of course.

Does this mean, if I load the program on my D, the OS will still use the temp file on my C drive ? This would in fact explain the problem I have.

A solution would be to repartiton my C and D to augment the G's on my C ?

Does this sound logical ?

NOTE: On my C, I have in fact 2G left of free space on a total of 20G; on my D I have about 130 G free on a total of 180 G.
I also use an external hard drive of 200G, which also contains files which I use for editing video. I like using this as a backup unit.

If, in fact, the temp folder is used in the operation of importing files into the program, it would seem to be a logical explaination.

Would you care to confirm ?

PS: You ask about the file I use; my computer is set to the ntsf standard, therefore, there should be NO limit on the 2G.

I guess the theory is wrong.

Since my last post,
On my second computer, I installed the program, connected my external disc, dropped the AVI file (30 minutes) and what happened ?

The same thing! The program only accepts 9min and a few seconds!

On this computer, I have 42G free space !
On this computer, it is the first time I have ever installed the program; it cannt be a question of retaining a memory of «a last shorter clip», it never had one here.

A real frustrating mystery !

If you look in the Burn Project to Disc window, you will see a box for the working directory. By default, this is on the C: partition. Normally, I recommend, if you are burning 4.7 Gb DVDs, this be placed on a partition where you have at least 10 Gb free.

I'm not sure that there are not other files that are placed on the C: partition, it's possible. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get out Partition Magic to give you more space on C:. It starts to sound a little tight as you seem to have your apps there.

I'll bet a coupla pennies that your problem is there.

Thank You Devil for your efforts!

My friend found the answer!

I feel so stupid... When the program was purchased, it was bought as a trial; therefore a patch MUST be installed for it to go BEYOND its limited scope of 10 minutes! Last year when I changed computer I did not install the program immediately...therefore...I forgot about that important detail !!!

I kept reinstalling the trial version ! Without the patch!

Everything, now works just fine !

Anyway, if this post can help someone else, be it so...

Thank You.
