Advice on purchase of Videostudio 9

Post by fchlim »

Hi,

I have just completed the trial of VS9 and would like to purchase the upgrade through ESD (I am already happily using VS7 with CDs). I have basically 2 questions which I hope to receive advice on.

First question - As I am not in the US, purchasing the CD version will incur additional 10% export fee plus another $55 on delivery by Fedex! While it seems like a no-brainer to purchase the downloaded version because of the cost difference, I need advice from those with the experience if the money saved is worth the trouble. Sorry I have no experience with purchasing through ESD.

The second question is an extension of the first. If I go for the downloaded version, there is an offer to purchase keeping the link open for 2 years. Would you also advise on this purchase.

Many thanks in advance.

(Personal opinion)

I have upgraded a couple of times, from 7 to 8 then 9. I have gone for the boxed version both times.

I have read on the boards many people expressing frustration with download links that don't work properly, and stuff that won't install right once you download it.

Also, if your computer dies, and you need to reload everything onto another one (happened to me :( ) it's a lot easier to do it from CDs.

Go for the boxed version and pay the extra.

Hi

I agree with Ron.

The download version is not just one download but several.
The main program is downloaded first then the extra contents, Quite a few in all.

Go for the box

I have to agree completely. Think of the extra cost as insurance in case something does go wrong.

when buying a download, burn a copy onto CD, in case you need to re-install etc. I did it for VS9.
There is then no need to incur fedex on a posted cd

That's fine as long as your download is problem-free.

I have downloaded my update from VS7 to VS9 and have not experienced any of the problems mentioned in the form. So it doesn't happen to everyone.

I recommend burning the downloads to a DVD once all the downloads are complete. I have reinstalled VS9 once a newly formatted system from the burned copies with no problem either.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

Those extra-over costs for purchasing the boxed version sound fairly high! Couldn't you have a friend send you a boxed edition as a present?
