I am editing a large highlight video with multiple clips. I have lost the audio, here goes;
1 No audio filters have been applied
2 Sound system is not muted or turned down low
3 Inserting a perviously tested clip into file - no sound
4 Highlighting a clip Clicking View > Play clip - I have sound
5 Clip properites - MPEG Audio layer 2
6 Project Settings- NTSC- Microsoft AVI- No audio
7 No audio files are placed on a lower level as to interfere
8 When opening this file - 75% of it loads in seconds - the remaining 25% takes 5 + minutes.
9 All clips where captured in MPEG II and work fine in other editors, file players, and Media Player.
10 If I open a NEW MSP 7 file and insert any of these aforementioned clips they have sound.
11 I have not changed any settings nor am I on the internet and do not use floppys and I am the only person with access - so no viruses should be present. Also I am using the full version for more than 1 year.
System - Windows XP Pro - 2.8gb - P-4 - 1gb RAM - hyperthreading - 300gb storage. Note: I have edited and burned in excess of 100 DVDs using this exact system and MSP Pro and have not had this to happen.
I'm on a deadline - if you know what the problem is - please reply!!!

Change project setting from AVI to MPEG2
I don't think you can mix and match (successfully) various video formats in the MediaStudio Pro timeline. According to what you've written, your project settings (AVI, no audio) don't match your source clips (MPEG2), and they should. I suggest you change your project settings to MPEG2 and specify an audio format.

Tim,
I agree that you cannot mix formats. I have not made any changes to the format. I capture in MPEG II, I edit in MPEG II and of course I render and compress with NTSC DVD. How the AVI no audio appeared I have no idea. No one but me has access to this system.
I cannot figure out how the AVI No Video changed. I have edited and burned over 100 DVDs without this happening. The strange part is that I can highlight a particular clip, go to the toolbar click View > Play Clip and the clip has sound, otherwise when I preview it, no sound. I have several projects using the exact same format and the sound is good. In this project the sound was good until a couple of days ago. The sound just left. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

this is a bit of a long shot, but may work as a quick fix.
save your current project and close it.
open a new project, and set the project settings to match your input files in project 1.
then from the menu, choose insert/project file and place project 1 into the timeline
You may be lucky, can't hurt to try.

Greg

BIG Kudoo's to you Greg....... your a life saver!!!!!! Thanks
Irrelevant in this case, but a general warning. One of the frequent causes of lost audio is trying to insert MP3 files. Many MP3 files, especially downloaded ones, are simply unsuitable as is, because they do not correspond to the requirements. Especially if you are working in either DV audio format (32 kHz 12 bit sampling 4 channel or 48 kHz 16 bit 2 channel), and your project is set accordingly (I always recommend the 48 kHz 16 bit 2 channel), the MP3 will, as likely as not, be in 44.1 kHz sampling but without the correct header to say so. MP3 players assume this but NLE software assumes the project settings, so incompatibility occurs.
Workaround: in AE or any 3rd party audio editor, convert your MP3 file to WAV, using the default sampling rate. ThatWAV file will work correctly.
