Problem with sound in Video Studio

Post by cnl390 »

I captured some VHS video from my VCR using an ADS USB 2.0 capture devise and Cap Wiz. I edited my project with no problem and burned to CD using the recommended practices found in this forum.
After burning the DVD played back fine on my LG 2166 burner as well as on Windows Media Player.
When I attempted to play it on my household DVD player (Toshiba) it played perfectly except fot no sound. I kept goping throught the tutorial & burned 3 more discs with the same results.
Finally on the last try I looked at the DVD players menu and set the audio to Analog and this solved the problem.
Will this be an ongoing issue and do I have to set the sound to analog (if possible) on every player I want to play it back on.

Thank you for all your help.

Since we don't know where you live or what the properties were of your poject or the original videos that went into it, much less your computer specifications, it is difficult to say. But if you are in a NTSC country, and used mpeg layer 2 audio, it is possible that your Toshiba is not built to play that audio format. Mpeg layer 2 audio is not part of the NTSC DVD standard, so it is optional for NTSC to be able to play it. If you select LPCM audio, see if that will play. If you have VS9, you could also try Dolby AC-3 audio, which produces a much smaller audio file (so you can fit more video on the disc).

Well, as I said, I think it is the MPEG audio you used and the probability that your Toshiba, as an NTSC machine, isn't built to play it. Can you try your DVD on a friend's player? Or burn another disc -- try using an RW disc so you don't waste a blank -- and use LPCM audio...
