Won't Launch

Post by rdenny »

After not using MSP8 for a couple of months, I went to start it and it won't launch. The installer offers no repair option. When trying to start it (veditor.exe), the busy cursor appears for about 3 seconds, that's it. No window. I can launch VCapture.exe, select Help/About Media Studio Pro and it opens the splash screen, showing my serial number.

I should mention that I used Registry Mechanic to clean out the registry. Maybe this was a mistake. Well, it was PROBABLY a mistake. It did NOT affect any other programs, though!

How can I recover??? The fact that the installer doesn't offer a repair option is a crock.

How aggravating - I uninstalled and reinstalled via MSP8_ESD_Full_E_8.00.0028_2.exe. It asked me for my key. I had a key saved on paper (starts with 911A2). I entered it. Then it asked me for an upgrade ????? I went to the ULead site, saw that I had **2** keys for MSP8, so I entered the second one (starts with 811A2). The installer completed without error.

The !@#$%^& program still won't start.

RM does not affect MSP8.

OK, it looks like you need to take strong action. Uninstall MSP8. Delete every folder that's left over. Do a search for MediaStudio, MSP8 and 8.0 and delete everything you can find pertaining to MSP8.

Now download Registrar Lite (free) and use its search facility to look for everything in the registry (after backup) with the same keywords as above. Select all, each time, and remove them. Now run your RM again.

Then re-install MSP8.

I had the same problem after running a Registry program, haven't found any kind of fix.

Devil -- That did it. What a pain. Then just to check, I again ran Registry Mechanic and reviewed the stuff it wanted to delete. It looked harmless. I let it clean. MSP8 still runs fine. So something else was the culprit. Heaven knows what.

The stupid thing is that there is no "repair" option in the MSP8 installer, and even uninstalling and reinstalling apparently doesn't really fix whaatever is needed to assure a running program.

And installing MSP8 wiped out my full/paid version of DVD Movie Factory 4 and replaced it with a brain-dead "light" version. Another pain in the butt. Re-installing DVDMF4, and the Upd_4 cured that. Sheesh.

Thanks for the input, though. I'm back on the air!!!

Hot Tip

Before you uninstall do a back up of your custom settings.
