WIDE SCREEN PROBLEM
Problems that I was having with VS9 and my MPEG files from my Sony DVD camcorder (DVD 803 the same camera in some countries is a DVD 403)
I was capturing the files in VS9 from the mini DVD made in my camcorder. (in wide screen) But I found that the import was not wide screen and not full screen. A bit in between both.
This problem can be fixed by capturing using the Sony Picture Package program that came with the camera. Then import into VS9.
Bingo! It is now wide screen.
OUT OF SYNC PROBLEM
All of my clips when played as a clip were OK. However when played as a project or recorded to a DVD it was 1 second out of sync (voice was about 1 second slow)
Thanks to someone on this board mentioning about a program called VideoReDo Plus. Which I downloaded from http://www.videoredo.com/
as a 15 day trial. The price is $49.99. I will buy it.
This program seems to have fixed the problem.
In VideoReDo I open the MPEG file which I have I captured with the Sony program.
Next do your cuts in VideoReDo, save and name the clips.
Then import the files into VS9 and drag to the timeline. Add transitions and even slow motion to 50% the sound is still in sync.
BUT. Don't re-cut or change the length of the clips in VS9 or the out of sync problem will return.
Cheers

A true 16:9 aspect ratio isn't being picked up by VS importing module
as 16:9 and VS must be assigning it 4:3 default.
The reason the picture looks strunk on your screen is because your
project properties <alt><enter> are set for 16:9 AND you have the
"Perform non-square pixel rendering" checked ON. Either way when
you import from a dvd that is 16:9 and VS assigns it as 4:3 you need to
set the non-square pixel rendering checkbox OFF to correct it and
display the pixel information aspect ratio correctly. The pixel
information is there but the aspect ratio is wrong.
When you import a 16:9 file and it's marked as 4:3 and is distorted
change the project properties to 16:9 and UN-Check the
"Perform non-square pixel rendering".
Unfortunately you still have to smart-render the file out to a new
mpeg2 file to correct the aspect ratio.
After a new mpeg2 file is created with 16:9 aspect ratio and you import it then you need the "Perform non-square pixel rendering"
checked ON because the aspect ratio now matches the pixels video
information.
Hope this helps,

Hello maddrummer3301,
Thank you so much. Your way to fix the wide screen problem is great!!!
Also I have been able to correct projects that I already had made in the half wide and half full screen mode.
And it is in proportion instead of looking a bit short when I did it my way.
I was thinking I would have to start over again. But not.
Thanks again.
