Hi Kartkid24 welcome to the boards,

We need to know a little more information to help.
How are you trying to capture, from a VCR, DVD Camcorder? Are you capturing using a SCART, video capture device, USB or Firewire (Sony calls it iLink, and others call it IEEE1394).
Does Windows (which version are you using) recognize that you have a capture device, either a camcorder or something attached?

Please provide us with that information..

Regards

Hi Kartkid24,

I don't think you're intentionally being ignored, but trying to determine why you are having this problem is more difficult then it seems. I've been doing some research and so far I'm stumped. However have a few more questions for you to fill in the blanks.

1. What version of MF are you using?
2. With the ADS DVD Express you should have Capwiz, can you capture using that software?
3. Fill in your system information located on your profile page.
4. Did you just aquire the ADS DVD Express, or have you been using it for some time, and just developed capture driver issue?
5. Do you have any other capture/burning or packet writing software installed? If so what are they? There are other programs that can cause conflicts with Ulead products.
6. Have you insured you have the latest patches for Movie Factory, and your drivers for the ADS is up to date?

7. If you have the boxed version, try doing a repair (Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Change or Repair.)
8. Have you tried reinstalling MF?

It almosts sounds like another program is preventing MF from seeing your capture device.

Regards..

Hello,
Sounds like you have a hardware problem.
Is the external USB device connected to a USB 2.0 port and by itself?
Make sure it's not plugged into a cheap USB Hub.
Make sure the device isn't plugged into the same port as mouse/keyboard/printers/harddisks etc.

>>1. I have version 3 and 4 and neither of them work
No details

>>2. No capwiz wont work either
Computer hardware problem. Capwiz should work and should be used to capture.

>>4. I just got it about a week ago
>>5. I dont have anything else
>>6. I have downloaded everything
>>7. Yes
>>8. Yes

Call or email ADS and get the "Capwiz" program working first.
You can't use the device for any video programs if "Capwiz" doesn't work.

I have the exact same problem using the same hardware and software but the results are somewhat different. I do have same problem re: No capture driver is available in the system. ADS Instant DVD USB2 device is recognized by windows 2000, Capwiz works, Moviefactory 3 SE recognizes it and works just fine. Moviefactory 4 is the problem. Help!

Hi,
What you want to do that gives the best results for video capturing and editing is capture with the manufacturers software. It's best designed for the device.

After you capture the video(s) then you import them into MF and create a dvd.

That is the preferred method to use with manufacturers specific hardware devices.

It helps to capture in CapWiz as dvd compliant video files. This will dramatically decrease the time to create a dvd from the videos. MF or VS or any editor will not have to convert them to dvd compliant video.
This will also maintain very good video quality by capturing dvd compliant video.

You can use the templates in MF as samples for capturing in CapWiz and make custom settings in CapWiz.

An example template to capture at in CapWiz:
NTSC DVD Example: Full D1 Resolution
FrameRate = 29.97fps
FrameSize = 720x480
Aspect Ratio = 4:3 (Depends on source material, may also be 16:9)
Video_Bit_Rate = 6000 (approx 1 1/2 hours of video)
Compression = 80% (Preferred 100%)
Audio = 48khz Stereo , mpeg 224kbs
or
Audio = 48khz Stereo, Lpcm
GOP's = Closed
P Frames = 4
B Frames = 2
Fielding = UpperFieldFirst (Field B)

PAL DVD Example: Same as above with the exception:
FrameRate = 25fps
FrameSize = 720x576
Audio = Mpeg 48khz Stereo @224kbs

Note: The Video_Bit_Rate combined with Compression settings will determine the overall quality of the video (and file size).

After recording using CapWiz using these settings import the videos into MF via the add media icon or simply "Drag & Drop" them from explorer into the MF Timeline.

From Ulead - the definitive answer

First, thanks Etech for the info. That is a viable solution for sure. Below is the answer received from Ulead -----

Im sorry but DVD MF4 does not have a plug-in to support capturing from ADS devices.

You can use however your DVD MF3 SE for capturing and use DVD MF4 for burning.

Thank you.
