Steve,
That's exactly what I did and it didn't change from the color box to the picture.

<<Steve,

Same with me. Everything downloaded fine (by the way, thanks for doing this!), but I couldn't get the colors replaced. So....here's what I did. I clicked on it in the timeline and opened up all the components. Then I simply right clicked and did a "replace with", and dropped in the video, image clips I wanted. Worked fine that way.

Thank you. Please keep an eye out for my forthcoming Tutorial where I shall do something similar to the recently published Tutorial on the Ulead Website

I have created another Smart Composition and I am currently in the process of writing the "How To" in my usual "For dummies" style.

Smart Compositor - Heres 6 more - crash solution + ram tests
MSP8 crashes because Steve's SC files do not install any audio clips - probably because MSP is not installed on the default C drive ? XP is installed on my D drive, and ulead auto installs to it.kjcmjc wrote:Sorry to say I followed Steve's intructions and when I go to open one of his designs VE crashes. If I open one that came with MSP it works fine.
The Fix :
Paste an audio clip copy from the Samples Folder into each of Steve's project folders. They are in the UCT_PLUG Folder and probably have different auto generated names:
00FD8CF92BB11114509177025F114BDA
00F89A2F3F85111650B4777E5F114BDA
00CA8CD12BDB11B2509177035F114BDA
00688C222B8611CA509177025F114BDA
00678C602BE81190509177015F114BDA
00488CD02B661116509077FD5F114BDA
00458CE12B7D11BE509177025F114BDA
( Maybe it is easier to in stall them one at a time - and use the search with date function to locate them ).
Launch these projects by clicking on their dvp files. e.g 00FD8CF92BB11114509177025F114BDA.dvp.
Note that you can scrub but not play the project in the preview window - or they seem to flash by very quickly.
In MSP's Timeline select the "blank" audio clip and replace it with the previously pasted audio. ( right click >replace with ). Save the project and close it.
To open the fixed SC template click : >insert >smartcompositor >steve jones >"applicable icon" ( look for the appropriate "file-name" as Steve did not create any thumbnails ).
Now when you click on the icon you'll notice that its name/duration details appear. ( which did not happen before ).
Repeat for the remaining files.
An alternate method is to launch his projects, replace the audio and then create new execute files using the free SC designer tool. Creating an exe file is what you'll need to do to get tv_news_guy's template to show up in the menu.
Free RAM Tester.
These crashes also helped me to localise my pc's intermittent shutdowns. The pc would suddenly shut down as if there was a power failure. It would then refuse to re-start. I would then have to disconnected it from the mains for a few minutes. A new power supply only resulted in it rebooting without the forced delay. Yep - SC is a good memmory tester - I could reproduce the shutdown everytime. Replaced my RAM - all ok.

There is a fault in the Smart Compositor Design Tool.
I informed Ulead of my findings and it is hoped there will be a fix in the Service pack due to be released this week.

Smart Composition Templates
Very nice templates Steve had made, a bit late to find it myself.
Has anyone created more of similar templates.
