MSP7: Adding more tracks [A/V], Insert mode

Post by aerosone »

Hi,

my girlfriend and I bought MSP 7 recently, since we got a good price. We just need to cut/edit some holiday footage and work on little video projects here and there.

Anyway, how/where can we add more videotracks to a project? I mean, in the manual, it always tells you that you can have up to 99 Overlays, but nowhere HOW to add one.

Same question, maybe even more important, for additional audiotracks.

2nd; We would like to work with the clips and transitions and stuff so that if you change the length of one element, all the others will adjust automatically. As they would be glued together. We got close to that with using the "A/B-roll" function, which isn't explained much in the manual. But sometimes, it only adjusts the next following element, creating a gap between that one and the one after it. Or; the transistions don't follow the changes.

We are somewhat of frustrated since the program also crashes here and there. We won't give up for now, but why are there no stable, easy-to-use programs for PC's???

Please help us, we would really appreciate that :)

Regards,
Hannes.

You can add extra audio/video tracks by
file
....project settings
..........................Edit
Then specify the number of overlay tracks you want.

For the other query, at top centre of the timeline are 3 options
No ripple, Single track ripple and multi track ripple.
Dependant upon what you are doing you need to alter your settings at this point.

No ripple performs a sort of overwrite.
Ripple will move things along whenever you add or insert something.

NLE proggies are really tough going for any computer. To get them stable, you have to be VERY careful. The ideal is a dedicated computer, set up correctly, and they are then as stable as a rock. The next best, and I recommend this to everyone who cannot afford a dedicated computer, because it costs noting other than a couple of hours of time, is to dual-boot the computer and reserve the new boot for video work. This means no Internet, no anti-virus, no firewall, no anti-malware, no Office, no nothing, except your video apps and the essential drivers. Provided you have your HDD/partitions right, this will be rock-like.

A similar but alternative to the suggestion by Devil regarding a dual boot is to create a user profile for video editing.
Correctly set up the user profile allows you to run your computer with the minimum number of required programs and processes. It disables your internet connection and antivirus programs etc.

Take a look at the following post relating to this and a few other methods concerning how to set up your computer for video editing.

In fact you can combine both suggestions and have a dual boot, the other one being set up as per the minimum processes profile.
