Title modual crashes MSP8 - help!

Post by skyml »

I open MSP8 (latest upgrade w/hotfix and MP4 plug-in). pick any format option and and then click to make a title and the entire program crashes and shuts down. Just installed last night.

Running on a Gateway laptop, AMD64 3200+ with 512mb RAM, plenty if HD space, ATI Radeon 9600 graphics.

This is unusual and suggests that one of the dlls used by the titler may be corrupt. Have you tried the uninstall/remove all msp-related files&folders/re-install? If it still happens, then we'll have to look further, but, PLEASE, read the Before you post thread and do what it asks.

I also noticed the title module is not very stable and it crashed MSP8 couple times.

It seems to me there are some bugs in the tiltle module. When it went wrong, I noticed the hard drive light was flashing and it ate about 200MByte of memory per second (through task manager). It looks like memory leak to me....

I had problems like this earler. I followed Steve's advice and on another drive re-instllaed WindowsXP and only software I use in video production.

Another words, things runing in the background like Antivirus, firewall etc can cause problems. Since I have done this I have NO problems.
Best thing I did.

Hope this helps.

I agree. NEVER have resident applications running when working with video (ANY software). The ideal is to have a dedicated computer for video work with no Internet connection (therefore no firewall/AV/spam filter etc. and trim the Start items down to a bare minimum). Failing this, the next best is to have dual boot on a single computer, disabling Internet and everything else, as above, on the video boot. Third best is to have a new user for video work.

Personally, I have the first option (separate dedicated video computer), and I never have any of the problems that are frequently reported in this and other forums because of resources being "stolen" by other applications. That having been said, I do know there is a memory leak issue which may appear with some surround sound conditions. I don't know of any others.
