Duplicate Image, delete original possible?

Post by Ron P. »

Hi,
I'm very new to PI (ver 11). However I've been using PSP 9. What I'm trying to do with PI, is when I open an image in PSP, I first duplicate the image, and delete the original. That way I don't mess up my original. In PSP it is Shift +D.

Is this possible in PI? or Do I have to do a Save as... to accomplish this?

I've been playing with my new toy prize...:) and so far it's impressive.

Regards

Ron
Use "save as" and give it a new name.
(Alt-F , A)

Glad you like it, I'm busy working through the DVD Menu stuff and making lots of adjustments to the one's I previously created in DVD WS2.
Much better control in Photo Impact once you get the hang of the naming conventions.

Have you looked at the 4 tutorials that came with the download
PI11_Tut_Ch01.avi to PI11_Tut_Ch04.avi
They are worth viewing for an overview of the product.

Hi Steve,

That's what I was thinking. I had looked through all the menus and seen duplicate as one of them but it works differently of course then PSP. Just a habit when I load an image to work on. PSP allows you to create a duplicate to work on in case you mess up, it does ruin the original.

Yes I have watched all 4 tutorial videos a couple of times. One thing that I did discover I can create custom menus for my DVDs, kewl beans!!

I'd imagine DVDMF is somewhat of a step down from the Pro level WS2.

Thanks Steve

Vidoman
I'd imagine DVDMF is somewhat of a step down from the Pro level WS2.
All the products have things which are not in the other products. All have strong points and weak points.

You could get by with MSP8 and DVD WS2 but I have already managed to improve one of my home made menus created in DVD WS2 now that I have PhotoImpact 11.

My very first Ulead program was Movie Factory 1 which came bundled with something - I think it was my First TV Card. Strangely enough I got by with that and got bitten by the bug. From there I tried one or two of the trial versions of Uleads other programs.

I now have the full set. I have only had a brief chance to take a glimpse at MF4 but from what I've read in this forum many consider it to be the best one for slideshows. I'm busy at the moment though playing about with Photo Impact.

One thing thats nice about having the full set is that I am able to look at some of the problems other users have to see if I can find a work round.
One of our members sent me a PM a couple of days ago asking how to capture from his Hauppauge TV card with Movie Factory so that gave me a chance and excuse to give it a try.

I have seen/answered some other queries about the Hauppauge Card so I came up with a tutorial!!

I've said before the best prize is another user responding that it solved their problem.

Ron, in PhotoImpact, open your original image, press CTRL D to create a duplicate, and close the original. The new image will not have a name, I believe it's just called Untitled. When you're ready to save it, you naturally have to give it a new name (or save to a different location), it's best to use the Image Optimizer (Under the Web menu). This will allow you to save it as a .jpg, .gif or .png and it will let you determine how much optimizing (if any) you want on the image.

Hope that helps.

Thanks MaryLou, that's what I was looking for. In PSP it's Shift + D. I thought I had tried that combination and it didn't work, must have hit the wrong keys...

Thanks
