Trouble Burning Personal DVD (PLEASE HELP!!!)

Post by snowman »

Okay... im not getting sleep over this one. I am using DVD MovieFactory 3.5. and its a realy cool program. But my problem is this. When i goto Create Video Disc, I am creating a video that all its files total 2.25 GB. A DVD holds 4.7 GB. So you would think that I should easily be able to create a DVD. However when I go to burn it, it says that I am over the limit, by ALOT! :roll: I really do not know what to do, I have been up all night on this one... If someone can really help me out I would appreciate it thank you!

Patch may be required.

It may be that the program is incorrectly estimating the space required by your project.

This specific problem is listed in the Downloads and Patches area for Movie Factory 3.

There are two patches there that may fix the problem -- if indeed this is what's happening in your case.

Thanks..! I will try that. When i went to the site it seems they only have patches for 3.0? And it said " Fixed abnormal estimation of the project size when the video clip was trimmed or cut." I did not trim or cut the clip woud it still maybe fix my problem?

The largest the project size can be including the menus is
4.37 gig (not 4.7).

Depending upon what type of "Source material" your using and also
the "Project Settings" determines the estimated file size.

Under the Tool Icon (bottom left) the popup screen has an option that says
"Do Not Convert Mpeg Compliant Files".
This box is normally checked unless you need to force a re-render of a
dvd-compliant file.

There are 2 scenarios here when the box is checked:
1 - If the files are "Dvd Compliant" AND not edited on the timeline then
they will not be re-rendered to the project settings(The estimated project size should be approx equal to the video files size).
2 - If the files are NOT "Dvd Compliant" they will be re-rendered according
to the "Project Settings" (Thus the new calculated file size).
Confusing yes,

Dvd's are comprised of Mpeg2 files in accordance with the dvd specification.
The Mpeg2 files must be Dvd compliant.

Did you capture the source videos using MF3?
If so, what format did you capture them in?

Here is an example:
If you imported a non-dvd compliant file lets say with the following settings:
Frame Size = 640 x 480
Video_Bit_Rate = 3000kbs Variable Bit Rate
Field_Order = Framebased
Audio_Properties = Mpeg audio 192kbs

This would be approx a 3 hour video if the file size was 4 gigs (maybe longer).
The above file isn't dvd compliant and would have to be re-rendered to
be a dvd compliant file.
MovieFactory 3 bases the dvd compliant settings according to the
"Project Properties"
So, if the "Project Properties" are set to default of 8000kbs etc which will
give you 1 hour of high quality video the after MF3 finishes rendering
the above non-compliant file to the 8000kbs compliant specs the file will
grow to approx 8000kbs (video_bit_rate) / 3000kbs (video_bit_rate) = 2.66 times larger than the original file
which would be a resulting file of 4 x 2.66 = 10.64 gigs approx. Actually it would be larger.

In order to correct this you must create a custom template and lower
the bit-rate. Then change the project properties to the new template
you created ( or try using one of the other templates that come with MF3).

Hope this helps,
