Hey Guy,
Well I have done it I have built a dualcore system, see the ammended profile.
The system does not run hot but that is probable due to how slow it runs, Task Mngr shows 1 core is hardly doing anything and in Device Manager I have the dreaded yellow question mark on 4 items listed under Other Devices
Iam working on it but so far cannot clear those Other Devices, only finished the build today
Video studio 9 has not let me capture so far, will gat Device Manager Cleared and try again
I did download and install the windows Dual Core Patch

Did you have any trouble when you install your duel Core System,
can you reccomend a place on the net to get some set up advice?

In many cases the BIOS will need to be flashed to the current version on your motherboard. Also, you may have to reinstall all the motherboard drivers for the chipset, etc.

All is well in the State of West of Australia, after some hours of worry I had a suggestion from a techie that my problem may be an old tv card that was in a PCI slot.
Sure enough every thing was working OK as soon as I pulled it out, now I have to find a Video Capture Card as I lost my old one in the change over deal. More money needed

Are you sure that updated drivers for the card will not fix the problem?

You should buy a matched pair of 1GB memory modules, otherwise you will not get the benefits of the DDR Memory. The Mother board is designed to use memory in pairs for the best perfomance.

Here is a review if the mother board.

Hey Kliker,
probably late with this since you've already built your system - but regarding the PSU, you need to get one that has enough capacity on the +12v rail, especially since you have a 6600GT. There's a huge variation in maximum current in the +12v rail in available PSU's, with many supposedly high capacity units having most current capacity in the less useful 5v rail.

For my own system, if I upgrade the video card to a 6600GT, I'd need in the order of 22a on +12v. Although a 400W unit should do, it's easier to find 500W units with that capacity.

Having said all that, AMD cpus and boards draw less on +12v than Intel.

A decent PSU is always good to have if you consider overclocking, which is an option on your system.

This is an update on my new system, it had a bit of a workout yesterday.

I had some old 90 minute HI8 video tapes that I have been wanting to capture and edit.

As I had sold the camera that was used to take the tapes some time ago, I had to arrange to borrow a Hi8 camera.

Did this yesterday and captured 9 hours of analogue video by patching the borrowed camera to my Digital Panasonic and passing the video through to the PC.
This went without any problems, no dropped frames and all done in real time.

In response to previous posts the 2Gb of RAM is 2 matched sticks of 1GB and I do have a 500w PSU.
Monitored the action with ASUS Probe and temps were 51/ 52degrees C for the CPU and 37/42 Degrees C for the Motherboard, with an ambient temp of 32/35 Degrees C.
So far It has been a happy experiece

Now for the editing and burning to DVDDoug

You lucky ****ard!

You don't mention which X2 you have - 3800+? (scratch that, just read the earlier threads - it's a 4200, right?)

Since you have a 7800GT, you must be a gamer, in which case it would be worth getting a separate sound card.

What's your 12Gb drive? (maybe just a misprunt!)

No not a gamer, but when I was buying the bits the 7800 was the only card available that was capable of video capture as well as all its other goodies.
That 12Gb WAS a misprunt and has been ammended to 120Gb, now I am off to start the editing of those 9 hours of video.
Looking forward to seeing some better render times
