poor video quality

Those attributes match the setting of VCD video, so when you add the video to a DVD project, the video will be resized to match the Full D1 DVD resolution of 720x480 or 720x576 (depending on the TV standard being used). This will result in pretty bad pixelation.

I can think of two possibly solutions. One is to recapture at Full D1 resolution, which would give you the best results. The other would be to create the DVD using Half D1 resolution, which is 352x480. No horizontal resizing would be necessary, only a vertical doubling of the resolution, which is a nice, clean ratio. The quality will be very close to normal VHS.

UVS has a template for Half D1, and I'm sure DVD Workshop does, too.

You have to start off with better quality -- meaning you need to change the way you capture.

How are you connecting your Digital8 camcorder to your computer? Firewire or perhaps through a USB connection??? What model is your camcorder?
sony digital 8 and I capture using the Ilink poet ( I have a Song VAIO cpu)

BUT the original captured video looks great, sharp, crisp & clear...it's just after expoting it to workshop is where I loose quality

I suspect that you have a feature-limited SE version of UVS without support for true DVD output. Either that, or you are choosing the wrong output format, but I'm sure that if you saw "DVD" listed somewhere, you'd use that.

How did you obtain your copy of UVS? Did it come with a piece of hardware?

message to maddrum. i was making an observation of some test i had done at the weekend. something seems to have changed since i wrote that last post as all id did was use the same template and relink pics to the new one. now totally fuzzy.

I totally agree framebased gives a better picture for image stills.
