Problem reinstalling VS9

Post by ben55 »

About 3 weeks ago i purchased online the upgrade to VS9. I had VS7 installed before. The Programm worked fine till a few days ago. As i tried to cut a clip out of a video (mpeg) i noticed that the clips (about 15sec long) came out much bigger (about 10MB !) than the video itself (about 3MB).I tried to do change settings but in vain.
I decided to reinstall VP9.I uninsalled it first. After installed successfully i got a message saying the "your 30 day trial has elapsed. You must register to continue use". (i had a trial version VS9 installed before). On this message there are 2 options: Buy Now and Reinstall (Free of charge).
Clicking on "reinsall" a new window opens requesting:
1.Licence Holder Name
2.Reference Number
I may guess what my holder name is (can"t remember it exactly) but i have no idea what they mean with Reference Number!
I never got such a number i have only my serial number.
I tried to put my serial number but it failed.
3 days ago i sent a support form, but got no response till now. :(
Can anybody help?

Hi Ben55,

I don't know why Ulead has their TBYB (trial) programs set up to where you can enter a Key to convert it to a Full ESD. It very seldom works. The best method is to uninstall the TBYB, then using a Full version, either ESD (downloaded) or Boxed version, install it.

Did you purchase the Boxed version, if not did you download the Full ESD version when you purchased it?

I've never seen the "Reference Number" come up in any of Ulead's Programs. However I must add that again I don't try to "convert" TBYB's to full licensed ones..

Thx Videoman...

I downloaded the full ESD version (172 MB) from a link sent to me from element5.com, (seems to be outsourcing firm working for Ulead)
http://dl.element5.com/d/26cea66eefc106 ... e__RTM.exe
This link does not work anymore.

Regarding your problem

Post by tinkertoy »

Not sure if this is a dumb answer, but I think the reference number is on the email sent from element. I purchased the version 9 last week and used the download version. I entered the info required from the email sent to me.

Sorry I cannot help anymore then above, but I am at work right now.

I also purchased the CD that arrived within two days, contact customer support and see if they may allow you to purchase the CD. Problem is customer and technical support is not as good as the software they produce.

Ben,

Contact Element 5 ( yes they handle the purchases for Ulead and others), tell them that your download is corrupt and request another download link. You might also see if you can purchase the Backup CD. I've had to do this on a couple of occasions. The links are only valid for a few days. They advise you of this in the email.

Once you get a good file, burn that to a disc or two.

Unistall trial version: can project be kept

Post by Strawman »

I have read thru a number of posts and there is some great exerience out there.

I just purchased boxed VS9 and have the trial version on my PC. I created a Project and libraries that I want to keep. I have copied the 9.0 folder with files to another folder. If I now uninstall the trial VS9 and install the purchased version, should the existing projects and libraries still work normally as long as the clips are located in the same reference location as originally called out in the project or are there any hidden links, tags, etc.?

Thanks
Trevor Andrew

Hi Strawman

Library Files
The library files used in the trial version have a limited content, the full version will have more especially after applying the extra contents packs.

The information for the library pages are saved as a Dat files ( VS_Video.dat—VS_Image.dat –VSTitle.dat etc)

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0

Copy these files to your hard drive outside the ulead systems folder.

Re-install VS 9.
(make a copy of the new dat files)
Now paste the old files back to the ulead folder to over-write the new dat files.

Your library content should be the same as the old one, using the trial version library.
When you have completed your projects replace the library files to revert to the new dat files.

Project and video clip files.

These are normally saved to your hard drive in the Working Folder / Capture Folder. If you allocated another folder other than the default you should be ok and uninstalling should not remove these files. But to be on the safe side make a copy of the working folder including all files used in your project, again save outside the ulead system folder. My documents is a good enough place.

Re-install VS 9
Allocate a working folder and copy your saved files from My Documents
If you now try to open one of your *.Vsp projects you will most likely get the Re-Link window.
The location of the original files being shown in the window
Browse your hard drive for the files to re-link.
Your project should run again as normal.

Hope this Helps

PS you may also have to relink the library files!!!!

other Ulead references in CLSID files found during uninstall

Post by Strawman »

Excellent discription Trevor!

Finally ret'd from traveling and can finish this. Relinking will be fun; 200+ clips
I backed all the video and dat files to a second hard drive and have uninstalled Ulead based on the steps that were provided by another member:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... =uninstall

I am ready to install the boxed version, however during the Regedit step listed in the uninstall description, I also found several CLSID files that contain reference to ULEAD, such as
...\CLSID\{ref number}\InprocServer32\(Default) of file type REG_SZ. This points to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD\LDCdBldr.dll
I checked and this file does not exist so I am guessing that this is a historical reference. Do you know if this would effect the installation of the new ULEAD software?

Side Topic:
In general, is it ok to delete CLSID files or at least for programs deleted from the PC?
