DVD ipmort error

Post by stevie wonder »

I have dowloaded the trial version of VS9 for the purpose of taking video files from a DVD (DVDvideo) and importing them to a video mpeg2 player on my PC. I know there are VOB converters that will do this but I need to also combine 3 or 4 VOBs into 1 mpeg2. I was told VS9 can do this......... but when I try to import from DVD I get the error message
CANNOT OPEN FILES REPORT ID: 0x80040836(2102)

What gives?

Thanks for the quick reply. I was also told VS9 could handle VOB's without having to rename them or such. It appears from most threads I have read, it is not possible.

It would help us help you if you told us exactly what steps you are taking to import material from a DVD. I was involved in that post that tyamada referred you to, and if was not apparent from that, then I can tell you that it is indeed to import directly from DVD using the 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR' command -- I use it relatively frequently with no problem. But you have to get the process correct (as I indicated in that cross-referenced thread).

Of course, the Ulead programs can't import commercial (copy protected) DVDs. So, if that's what you're trying to do, you'll have to look elsewhere.
but I need to also combine 3 or 4 VOBs into 1 mpeg2.
If you can successfully make each of these into an MPG file, you can join them with Video Studio* or any another video editor... That's the kind of thing that video editors do! :) However, if you are trying to re-join the VOB sequence from a DVD, you might get a "glitch" where the files are joined... you won't get a nice continuous stream.

There are programs that can make one big VOB from the VOBs on a DVD... Maybe VOBedit... I'm not sure... You might be able to do it with the DOS "copy" command. ...Oh, the VideoReDo site has some really good suggestions for combining VOBs.

When I had a "problem" VOB, I had some luck using a multi-purpose conversion program called SUPER (FREE !!!) to convert it to an MPEG that was "acceptable" to the Ulead jprograms. (Again, SUPER will NOT help you decrypt a CSS protected file.)

* MPEGs are not meant to be edited, and some of us have had problems editing MPEGs with Ulead products. Make sure the trial version works for your situation before you buy!

When the DVD import function works for a particular DVD, it's beautiful! But, there are some DVDs it doesn't like. :?

simple "Import from DVD/DVD-VR" VideoStudio9

Post by stevie wonder »

Hello All,
My facility deals with a variety of DVD video programs. We do not use copyrighted material. Most productions are edited with standard apps such as Premiere. We mostly burn to DVD with Pioneer one touch recorders in the DVD-R video disc mode. This yields a disc with one or more bup,ifo and vob files. Up until this week playback was via the Pioneer DVD player. We have now installed a video server that will playback multiple streams of Mpeg2 files. The trick is to get the DVD's to mpeg2 as simply as we can. Unfortunatley we need a process that will require as few steps as possible due to manpower and time limits. So I was told to try VS9. The program will boot to the capture screen and I click "Import from DVD/DVD-VR" select the Video TS folder, select title 0 which is the only title available. The statistics show up (720x480,frame rate, data rate etc.) and the preview window can play the entire video. Click on import and the error message pops up! *@$%#!
I have successfully copied the disk to my hard drive remuxed the video and can then edit. This solution is not workable for my situation. I think this import function is not available on the trial version as others are able to import vob's directly. Any thoughts? Cheers to all for your help!

Try copying the VIDEO_TS folder to you harddisk and importing from
the harddisk.
VS9 changed the importing module and is different than previous versions
along with a few bugs when released.
The updates address the bugs and importing dvd's works (except +VR disks).
You can't apply updates to a trial version.

Nero can import your dvd. The importing process Nero uses takes
longer than VS or MovieFactory4.

The latest VideoReDo has an autocombine feature that will join the VOBs of your home recorded DVDs. There is also a batch function which would allow you to automate import and export of multiple files.

After repeated attempts to install on different computers, I keep getting DVD import errors. I can't reach tech support.

I am evaluating Nero and it works good albeit a little slow.

I will check back in the future. Thanks to all!
