DVD Workshop Stops working when it gets to the Menu Encoding

Post by watashi »

Well, this did not happen before. What happens is, it encodes everything and then it gets to the Menu Encoding and it just stops. I have a still image with background audio. Not really motion, but it just freezes. Nothing happens, and I have to CTRL ALT DELETE to close DVDWS2 because it won't stop. It's as though it just freezes there. And, I've tried every variable that could bother it. Such as Nero/Roxio. I removed those two, but Roxio was in there before the problem happened. I'm not sure...

That seems similar to my problem. However, I get no error message and so forth. It just stops. Sometimes I get the error from "GODMENU.DLL" and "XVIDEOEFFECT.DLL".

Could you confirm you have written down the correct DLL error messages.
never heard of these two and a search of google and ask jeeves has failed to find any reference to them.

Yes, those two do exist. Check them in the Program Files. Those were my error problems. I found a website talking about the GODMENU problem.

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t254878.html

This is also the exact same problem I have, or at least very very similar. To this extent also "Since the error mentioned godmenudll.dll i tried to burn after removing motion menu and the menu sound to no success. I tried to open another project that worked fine couple of days ago same error "

I've reinstalled UDVDWS 4 times already.

Yes I see. He posted that a year ago and no mention of if he ever resolved it.

If I had this problem I would firstly run a memory checker to make sure the RAM wasn't playing up. there are several free one's on the internet, just do a google search.

Unlike the fellow on the other forum, please keep us updated with your progress so that the next person who has this error will have a possible cure.

I confirm godmenudll.dll and xvideoeffect.dll are valid parts of WS2.

Your use of Nero and Roxio flash warning bells and sound warning lights. They are both very invasive apps and leave hundreds of residues in the registry. They are especially bad if you have installed any of the file management utilities to simulate a hard disk on a CD/DVD and they can also conflict with WinXP as they take over some of its functions. I now refuse to allow any of them near any of my computers. I would guess that you have a 99% chance that one (or both) of them is causing your problem.

What to do? Uninstall every application that uses your DVD drive. Do a search for every reference to each of them on your computer and delete every reference (file or folder) that you find - be ruthless. Back up your registry. Use the search function of Registrar Lite (freeware) for each of them. In some cases, you may find >100-200+ references. Select all and delete, choosing the remove from registry option. The run Registry Mechanic's deep search and allow it to do what it must. Reboot. Install WS2 and I'll bet it will work.

Alternatively, reformat the C: drive, reinstall Win and reinstall all your drivers and apps, starting with WS2. Test WS2 after each new re-installation and you'll see what interferes with it.

As I'm reading this thread, I'm wondering if my problem stems from Nero. Please see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=7512

I have done all there is to do prior to reading your info, Devil, however before I go through all of the steps you indicate, since I am not a computer guru like you, do you think my problem is coming from Nero (prior to this build I had Roxio...encountered no problems)? Keep in mind I had a lenghthy conversation with the great guys at Ulead & this was never mentioned, just that MSP8 was experiencing a definate conflict with WS2. I would love to get this resolved & not have to export a finished project to another program to be able to use WS2.

Thanks in advance for any input you have.

So, I'm back, thanks to the help for the previous answers, but now a new problem arises with the same problem, this time I do not get any errors at all, it just stops encoding at the menu audio encoding.

There is no error detection, I've left it overnight, and it just does not move, so I believe the problem might be overpacking the DVD, which has 4.4GBs. I'm not sure if that even IS a valid problem, because I've converted them all to a compliant format, allowing enough space to have DVD Menus with Audios and Motioning Menus, but when I add the audio to the menu, it will stop encoding at menu. Unsure of the problem I took out all the audio, and it works, (because there is no audio) but I would like to have audio, so...

Explaining what the problem is, hopefully someone can help. I didn't make a new thread because I remembered posting a similar problem here.

4.4 Gb is too much for an SL DVD¡ÓR. The theoretical maximum is ~4.38 Gb. The practical maximum, including your menus, subtitle and sound tracks, first play etc. is 4.3 Gb. The recommended maximum is 4.1 Gb (the outer tracks are sometimes hairy). I suggest you try reducing it to 4.1 Gb and try again.

I always try to keep my DVDs to a maximum of 4gb.

What type of audio file are you adding to your menu? Try converting it to a 48khz Stereo *.wav file before adding it to your menu...

I used MP3. And the DVD without the audio turned out to be 4.4 yeah. But, most of my dvds are and it's pretty much good. However, I guess if the project exceeds the limit then it won't do it, but that makes no sense, I dunno...

I'll try to convert it to wav next time, thanks for the info.
