Errors - Drive is busy / Drive not ready

Post by ashleynicole »

I just got a Sony DVD burner, and the ULEAD MovieFactory software. I've burned several dvds successfully, but a few times when the process has gotten to the time to actually burn the dvd, i get a pop up error that says 'DVD drive is busy with another application' and then 'Drive is not ready'. I'm not running any other programs while burning discs, and nothing else i know of on my computer involves the dvd drive. So i'm not sure why this error keeps occuring. Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

Thanks for the help

This error is usually related to "PacketCD" writing software which allows you to drag and drop files from Windows Explorer onto the CD as if it were another Hard Drive.

You need to disable your packet CD software whcih may be Nero or one of the other popular CD/DVD writing packages.

I'm not sure what to disable. I did have Nero on the computer first, but i uninstalled it because it wasn't working for the files i needed it for. And i don't have any other programs related to the dvd drive that i know of. Unless it's some process that runs in the backround of Windows.. i'm not sure what else to disable when i'm trying to burn something. Where can i look?

First:
Open up "My Computer" to see your dvd burner(s).
Right-click on the Dvd-Burner and select "Properties"
On one of the TABS (may be the one on the right) may say "Data-Add".
UN-Check the box for "Enable UDF recording on this drive".

Another TAB next to "Data-Add" may say "Recording". Click on that
and uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive" (that's so windows media player can burn CD's, can conflict with data-add).

Second:
On the right side of your taskbar where the clock usually is.
If you pass the mouse arrow over the icons you should see a program
called "Ulead AutoDetector".
Right-Click on the icon.
Select "Options".
Uncheck the box "Run AutoDetector when Windows starts up".
Hit OK to close the window.

3:
Right-Click again on the "Ulead AutoDetector" icon.
Select Close.

If you have 2 dvd burners then apply step #1 settings to both burners.

That will remove programs that are accessing the drive(s) while MF is
trying to burn.

Hope this helps,

MD
