If you can write to the dvd then what software is that?

Right-Click on the dvd burner and select "Properties". In the "Properties" screen click on "Data-Add" and see if "Enable UDF writing on this drive" is checked ON.

Before you can right-click on the dvd-writer and select data-add you must FORMAT the dvd first using the ulead formatting utility.
From the MF splash screen on the bottom are icons. One of them will say Format a disk (when you pass the mouse over the icon).
Format the disk first. Then after it's formatted you can right-click on the dvd-writer and select "Data-Add" and get to the menu.

You may have to erase the dvd first. Depends on what program formatted the dvd+rw before and what UDF version it formatted it as.

It also sounds like you have conflicting packet writing software on the computer if there is an option for Roxio. If there is a program called "Drag to Disk" you should remove that or choose between that or data-add. Also check if Nero InCD is running. That is another packet writer. Another packet writer is "Sonic DLA".
You can only use One packet writing software on a computer setup or they conflict trying to control the dvd writer.

The software is the UDF software that comes with the Ulead disk. And it's not burning the DVD. It's just Drag and Drop from Windows Explorer. The DVD was UDF'd using another computer.

When I right click on the DVD drive in Windows Explorer, I get "Data-Add Format Disk" as a choice. When I select it, I get the 80041480 error.

I don't think the Roxio that comes with Windows Media Player is a full implementation. Just something to burn audio with. I think I would have to remove Windows Media Player to get rid of this and it doesn't seem right that I would have to do this to be able to select my burner in Burn.now.

I don't have InCD or Sonic DLA installed either.

>>When I right click on the DVD drive in Windows Explorer, I get >>"Data-Add Format Disk" as a choice

Is that ALL of the Choices?
If you do as I posted above and format the cd/dvd then after it's formatted when you right-click on the cd/dvd you will see about 3 more choices such as
"Data-Add Certify Disk"
"Data-Add Finalize Disk"

Because you are not getting these additional options verifys the disk isn't formatted for writing using the ulead software.

Format the disk from the launcher menu. After it's ejected re-insert the disk and you will be able to drop files to it.

I've always had to format from the launcher menu and not by right-clicking.
If you haven't used "Quick-Drop" yet after the disk is formatted you can either drop to it or using Quick-Drop (about 4 boxes) you have more options. Such as instantly creating an audio CD, data disk etc.

If that doesn't work it's time to get the sledge hammer out.

Hope this helps,
