PROBLEMS WITH NEW PIONEER DVR-R100 CD/DVD WRITER

Post by mufutau55 »

I just installed a new Pioneer DVR-R100 and also installed the software from ULEAD that came with it, now the software does not see any of my two cd-rom drives.. What is going on? I am running Windows 98SE
I sent a message to ULEAD Tech support but they did not reply me..
What kind of company is this? Can anyone help?

Do you have any other burning software on your system? Sometimes programs like Nero or Roxio can conflict with Ulead.

BTW - I don't think you can get direct Ulead Technical support for the free-bundled versions of Ulead programs.

The Pioneer comes with the Jumper set to master, change it to slave and all will be good. ( jumper is small gray plastic thingy on back of the Pioneer drive) :)

NO. I already un-install the older copy of CD-Creator I was using before I replaced my CD/DVD Writer with Pioneer.
Yhe thing is that Windows98SE Explorer can see both of my CDROM/DVD Player as Drive D: and the CD/DVD Writer as Drive E:
Both are PIONEER drives.

It's already set to Slave because I also have CD/DVD Player on the channel as Master. Both are Pioneer drives and the Windows98 Explorer can see both drives as D: and E: respectively. The drives are working properly but the ULEAD software sucks. I regret having it.

Is DMA enabled for the new dvd writer?
In Win98se you usually have to enable DMA manually.

Also check for any references to drivers being loaded for the drives
in "Real Mode" in the "Config.sys" file on the boot harddisk.
Also check the "Autoexec.bat" file for any references to "MSCDEX.EXE"
(wow, really going back). Put a REM in front of that line. (Make sure to insert a space after the word REM.

You can just put the words REM in front of any lines that loads
drivers in the config.sys and autoexec.bat file so the operating system
skips that line and doesn't execute it.

If you Win98 is an upgrade from Win95 there's a good chance there
are old drivers being loaded.

Check for DMA being enabled first.

Hope this helps,

I think you need to install the following patch
DVD MovieFactory 4.0 Update Pack (Build Number: 4.01, Release Date: 2005/06/07)
Which can be found here
http://www.ulead.co.uk/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm
8X DVD+RW Support:
Improved burning performance that now fully supports 8X DVD+RW burning devices, including Pioneer A09, NEC 3540A and LiteOn 1673S.

Yes. The DMA is enabled. No reference to anything/driver in CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, this is used directly in WIN98SE, and the Windows can see the drive. NO. Not an upgrade from WIN98.
Thank you.

Try placing your CD/DVD drives on separate controllers and/or just plug in one drive at a time and see if the Ulead software can use them.

In general it is not a good idea to have more than one CD/DVD drives on the same cable, it creates conflicts.

Hi. That's how GATEWAY COMPUTER has it setup since I bought the PC in Year 2000 and it has been working faultlessly since then until I changed one of the CD-ROM which is the Writer. But thanks anyway.

I don't believe you can install the win98se patch from the ulead web site because your using the Dvd_MFse version that is bundled with the pioneer burner.

Make sure the atapi aspi drivers are up to date for win98se.

Maybe re-installing the software again will correct the problem.

I've got the same problem and tried all of the above except the firmware since the pioneer website warns of damaging the unit if the firmware update is incorrect.

Have you got it working yet? If so, what did you do? :?

The firmware update is to recognize new dvd media.
The firmware shouldn't have anything to do with recognizing the dvd as a dvd writer.

Question: Do any other software programs recognize the dvd writer and have you burnt any data dvd's using other software?

WIN98SE does. Also, I can add a files to a UDF'd DVD. But I can't UDF a CD or DVD either. I get the following error, 80041480, when I right click the UDF'd DVD in the DVD/RW drive and select "Data Add 2.0" (or something like that). Realplayer V10 has a burner option, but shows that I don't have burner software. Win Media player has a folder called "ROXIO" with a program wmburn.exe in it, but I haven't tried that.
