VS 7 SE burns only DVD RWs not Rs

Post by d_mcginnis »

I use VS 7 SE, a Plextor 712a DVD burner and Memorex DVD-RW & DVD+RW. I tried to burn a movie on a DVD-R and VS7 said the disc is a non-editable disc. Can I only use RW discs?

WOW, looks like I stumped everyone. Darn!!
Can anyone burn DVD-R or +Rs?
Is it me or the software?

Well 5½ hours is hardly long enough to decide that you have stumped everyone - some of the regulars on these forums haven't even got up yet - yet alone had time to log on to see your problem.

Yes Ulead VideoStudio will most certainly burn -R and +R discs BUT BUT BUT you have an SE version - these are all crippled in some way because they are supplied free with different hardware packages. Unless your version is specifically "7 SE DVD" or "7 SE CD" it is very likely that you will not be able to burn any discs at all - you may need to buy the full version.

The error message I get is

"You need a DVD disc to burn the content in the DVD-Video re-editable format. Please change the disc first then try again."

I can burn both DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs with no problem.
But when I use the DVD+R discs, I always get the error message.

Hi
Have you managed to use these discs (Dvd+R) successfully using another program.
To prove or disprove that Video Studio is the culprit.
Try burning your Mpeg 2 files using Nero or similar software.
If you do not own the software you could download a trial version.

It may be a compatibility problem between your burner and the disc.

If it happens to be a compatibility problem, check out these links.

Yes, I have used the DVD-R & +R discs in my burner outside of VS7 with no problem at all. I guess I will buy the full version now that I know the SE is a limited version.
