My source does not appear in drop down menu!

Post by ldslk »

I have a plextor USB convertx PX-M402-U external capture device. I connect my camcorder to the device, run movie factory 4 to capture video from my camcorder, but then the plextor does not appear in the drop down menu so I cannot capture video!! When I use intervideo dvd creator software to capture video from the plextor, it appears in the drop down menu and I can captrue with no problem at all. Why is my plextor not appearing in the drop down menu so I can capture video from my camcorder and vcr??? Please help anyone.

thanks,

Your device may or may not be compatible with MF.

Try changing the "Capture Device Plugin".
In the capturing screen click on the "Down Arrow" to display more
capturing options.
One of the icons will say "Change Capture Device/Plugin" or something
like that. See if your device is listed.
Try the direct show & the ulead mpeg capture if your device isn't listed
in the capturing devices. Usually it's the Ulead Mpeg capture.

Plextor is now bundling ulead software with their converter, so it could not be that it is not compatible with ulead. See here:

I assume that your camcorder is analog. If it's digital, you can connect it directly to your computer's Firewire or USB-2 port without the Plextor analog capture device.
What can I do or get??
I think you've already answered your own question.
When I use intervideo dvd creator software to capture video from the plextor... I can captrue with no problem at all.

There is no problem capturing with one program and editing / DVD authoring with another. That's what I do. Depending on the project, I may use several different programs for capture, video editing, audio editing, DVD authoring, burning, packaging & labeling graphics, etc.

Analog capture is the trickiest part of this whole digital video business. And, video capture drivers don't seem to be as standardized as more common peripherals (like printers). Most capture devices will come with capture software that's written specifically for the particular hardware. (Sometimes the hardware will come with a Ulead product thrown-in too, but the capture function may not be optimized for the hardware.)

Actually you should use the software that's written for the device.
Seems like Windvd has patches to support the device.
There are also firmware and updates for the codec on the Plextor website.

I would use their software to capture with until they come out with
a driver for Directx so MF can access it, or a patch to MF.
Then you can import the videos into MF & create dvd's.
